At Kapolei High School, we believe every student deserves an education tailored to their unique needs and goals. Our school’s smaller learning communities, known as academies, are essentially "schools within schools" designed to focus on specific career paths. These academies allow students to explore fields of interest, gaining relevant skills and knowledge, which helps them discover their strengths and interests. Each academy fosters a supportive community of like-minded peers, creating a collaborative environment that boosts motivation and engagement in learning, provides a personalized and enriching experience, and prepares students for college or careers after high school.
The Academies of Kapolei High School are built upon Career and Technical Education Career Pathways, with each academy's curriculum structured around specific Career Pathway Programs of Study. Through our engaging interdisciplinary curriculum, students develop critical 21st-century skills while exploring a career theme. This approach helps them see the relevance of their coursework in real-world scenarios.
There are eight academies. The majority of incoming freshmen will join the Freshman Academy for their first year. However, some students have the opportunity to become members of the Ho'ola Natural Resources Academy as freshmen. Students make their academy selection during the registration time of their freshman year. The majority of students will stay in their chosen academy throughout 10th, 11th, and 12th grades. However, if a student is unhappy with their academy selection, they can request a change during the registration period only. The switch may be granted for the following school year.
Our Academy programs equip students with the knowledge and skills they need for successful careers. Throughout this comprehensive 3-4 year program, students will gain a thorough understanding of the field through a combination of theoretical and practical coursework.
In the first year, students will establish a strong foundation in core subjects. As they progress through the program, they will delve deeper into specialized subjects and skills. This structured approach ensures students develop a comprehensive skillset while gradually building upon their knowledge.
