Class Period: 3A
Home Campus: Heritage High School
Project Objective: We were tasked with researched and innovating a design for a cardboard chair and then constructing the chair in a manner that fit all of the set constraints and held up to a weight of 15 lb.
Design Process: First we researched what different chairs looked like and after finding ones that were unique and were constructible, we put them in our engineering notebook. Then, we picked the best 3 and then ranked them based on different criteria ultimately selecting one. We then came up with a plan for construction by drawing a picture of the chair with all of its parts in an exploded pictorial. Finally, we constructed the chair using cardboard and in a manner that fit the unique characteristics, we built it.
Learning Target: The learning target for this was to be able to use the design process to construct a cardboard chair.
Personal Reflection: This was one of the more fun projects that we had and I feel as though this project really showed me how impressive my abilities were as I hadn't before built something y utilizing such an in-depth process before. Furthermore, this project also showed me how much faster a project goes the second time you go through with it. I experienced this because the day before the project was due, it broke because of technical errors, and I had to restart the building process, however the second time, I was able to complete it within a few hours as opposed to the 3 days it initially took.
