East Bridgewater Vikings Fall sports on a record-breaking run
By Cheyenne Morrissey, 11
11/21/25
This fall season, the East Bridgewater Vikings sports teams have been stepping up their games and setting records. With many of the teams making it into the tournament, with field hockey and boys soccer and volleyball have all exceeded the expectations, setting new records for making it as far as they did. Setting the standard for the following sports season.
Boys soccer and girls volleyball are the last ones left in the tournament. Volleyball is onto the final 4 and soccer is in the elite 8 both making it the farthest they have gone in years. Both teams heading into their games with heads held high, ready to win.
Spring sports will hopefully be encouraged to elevate their game by the efforts put into the fall sports and start to step up and set new records and achieve even more winning streaks. The drive and motivation will hopefully continue throughout Winter to Spring and show how great East Bridgewater sports can truly be.
The dedication, success, and teamwork displayed by the Vikings this fall has not only led to many impressive victories but have also fostered a strong sense of community and spirit. This collective enthusiasm from the teams not only undoubtedly fueled the athletes' performance but also pushed them to achieve greater things.
East Bridgewater's fall sports teams have not just played games, but they have ignited a fire of passion and pride for future seasons.
East Bridgewater Varsity volleyball wins the Elite 8 to make it to the Final 4
By: Riley Egan, 12
11/21/25
East Bridgewater Vikings Volleyball are proving themselves. After 2 consistent years of making it to the Elite 8 the Vikings finally beat it. Last game, the Vikings won to bring themselves to the final four. The past two years we had to watch the teams get handed their trophy and banner as we stood on the line with high emotions. This year was different.
This year was more to prove. We had to prove the spot we deserved, which some teams can’t see. After winning the Elite 8 game, the Vikings proceed to the next game, which is the final 4.
The final 4 game is taken place at Foxborough High school. This is a neutral destination between the two teams playing. We were lucky enough to play our first two tournament games at home.
On November 17th the Vikings clenched the victory against West Bridgewater. We now play November 11th against Nipmuc Regional. The destination at Foxborough high-school is right in the middle of the two teams.
Whoever wins this final 4 game will move onto the state championship to play the winner of Rockland VS. Bourne. We have played both of these teams in regular season. We won against Rockland in 4 sets and won against Bourne in 5. Either way, all these games being played will be a good challenge.
We will see how the future goes with the Vikings' volleyball team, hoping for the best.
Vikings Girls Field Hockey for the win once again
By: Cheyenne Morrissey, 10
10/17/25
Vikings varsity field hockey took on a rough game last night on Carver's home turf. Winning with the score of 1-0.
The girls varsity field hockey team played a long hard game against Carver last night with both sides fighting like crazy wanting to be the one to score. Playing with one of our seniors down, Makenna stepped in to fill her spot, stopping the ball and bringing it up the field many times throughout the game, keeping it closer to Carver's goal. While there was no goal during the first quarter, the girls were all pumped up to get back out there and change the pace of the game.
During the second quarter of the game tension has set in as carvers got closer to a goal but the Viking defense isn't letting up keeping the ball away from the net sending it up the field keeping carver away. During the entire game, the defense was ruthless, keeping Carver from getting a shot on the goal any chance they got. Vikings goalie, Saide, kept the ball out of net making amazing stops making sure that ball did not enter our goal.
The third quarter rolls around, the Vikings are prepared to fight and get a goal. This quarter, the Vikings kept the ball on Carvers side 90% of the time, making it hard for Carvers to keep it from their net. The Vikings girls were getting many shots on net, and then the ball went in on a goal by Sophia. Everyone was ecstatic because the Vikings now controlled the pace of the end of the game, and it was in their hands who would win.
The last quarter of the game, the Vikings fought to keep that goal and stay ahead of Carver. Sending it up the field, keeping it as far away from the net as they could. There was a corner and tensions got high everyone set up for the corner and as the play went Carver shot the ball and Vikings goalie Saide stopped it. The game came to an end, meaning the Vikings had won.
Lady Vikings for the win cheer them on for their next game.
East Bridgewater Girls Basketball Team Defeats Cohasset Skippers
By: Lily Pavidis, 11
2/3/25
East Bridgewater Girls Basketball team got the W in their home gym over the Cohasset skippers this past Tuesday on 1/28/25. The girls had 2 days to prepare for the 9-4 Skippers. East Bridgewater was looking to keep their 6 game win-streak alive, but they knew that Cohasset had a wide range of players, and this game was going to be hard fought.
As halftime approached, the girls had lost some of their lead, and were going into the locker room up by 8. East Bridgewater’s main focus was playing good defense, and keeping the game at a high speed. The girls started the second half with high energy and determination to get the win on their home court. Jackie Pohl had an amazing second half, scoring 10 points, and helping the Vikings keep Cohasset to 0 points in the third quarter.
Despite the fact that the score at halftime was 24-16, East Bridgewater managed to keep the Skippers to 18 points at the end of the game. They didn’t play their best in the second quarter, but they turned it around in the third quarter and their lead jumped to 43-16 going into the fourth.
Although many players had a great game, 10 Vikings helped East Bridgewater climb to 59 points.
Jackie Pohl, Harley Fritz, Lily Pavidis, Jenna Oman, Bella Abrams, Liv McManus, Emma Farrell, Jess Long, Brooke Murphy, and Molly Schlossberg all put up some points during the game.
The hard fought match ended with a 59-18 win for the Vikings, and they travel to Middleboro on 1/30/25 looking for their 12th win of the season.
East Bridgewater track teams badly defeat Randolph
By: Anonymous, 12
5/21/24
The East Bridgewater boys and girls track teams blew Randolph away in competition. On April 30, 2024, the East Bridgewater track teams had yet another town to beat. With an undefeated record for the season so far, the boys knew what they had to do in order to keep their reputation safe. Although the girls had already lost some track meets prior to this event, they did enough to beat Randolph in the events that really mattered.
The boys were led by senior Chris Oman, who pulled away with wins in boys triple jump and boys shot put. Junior Emmanuel Nelson left his competition behind in the 200m dash, and senior Colin DeChambeau took first in the 800m race. Other winners consisted of seniors Brennan Shea, Aidan Toomey, and Sean Gurney, who devastated their competition in the 110m hurdles, high jump, and boys discus. Junior Ethan Pohl ditched his opposition in boys javelin, as well.
In similarity to the boys, the girls EB track team came to win against Randolph, as they demolished almost every event with a win. Senior Calice Morton pulled away with a win in the 100m dash, as Freshman Lauren Dona took first in the 400m. Freshman Evelyn Whitlow, Sophomore Bella Bright, and Senior Ella McCarthy all took first in the girls 800, 100m hurdles, and 400m hurdles. Senior Sasha Feron and junior Grace Schnel were both double winners in field events, consisting of discus, shot put, long jump and triple jump.
With eighth graders coming through and qualifying for states, such as Ari Cofran for the girls 800m and javelin, the EB track teams are only getting stronger. With losing the amazing runners, jumpers, and throwers of the senior class, the coaches and underclassmen are prepared for next year, based on what they’ve shown throughout this spring season. These teams are only getting stronger.
Randlph had no chance of even coming close in competition with the well-built, athletic, and determined East Bridgewater boys and girls track teams.
Vikings Football 3-0 First time in 9 Years
11/3/24
By: Collin Brown, 12
The East Bridgewater Vikings football team is now 3-0 this is the first time in 9 years since the Vikings saw this type of success. The last time the Vikings got off to this hot start was when they went 11-1 and went to the Super Bowl back in 2015 and lost in the Super Bowl to North Bridge. The year after that, the Vikings beat St. Marys. However, it's safe to say that this season is different.
So far this season, we have over 1,000 rushing, and the running backs behind the “shield” which is the name of our offensive-line group coached by Coach Eric Fritz. Coach Fritz is a former Division-1 football player at Pittsburgh. With Fritz coaching us more this year, the line-up consists of Garrett Berry, Jack McDermott, Devon Blair, Brandon Krappe, and Collin Brown as the starting 5. All players have been putting in work over the summer, and it's paying off. We are a whole different group this year with one job, to keep our quarterback, Ethan Pohl, and give our running backs, Aidan Clancy, and Austin Dewhurst holes to run through.
Some might say that EB Varsity football team was over for the past couple of years, as we had a couple of rough seasons prior. However, with help from our new coach, Mr. Greg O’Sullivan, the team has turned around successfully. On Friday, October 4th we played Rockland which was the start of league play for us. We have practiced thoroughly, ironed out most of the wrinkles, and went into the game with confidence to beat them on our new turf.
The Rockland team was tough, but the thing about this Rockland team is that they were looking for a dogfight. Our team was ready for war and like Coach Sully says, we have to keep rowing, and we picked up “W” during that first home game.

East Bridgewater Girls Cross Country Defeats Cohasset
10/2/24
By: Anonymous, 10
On Thursday, September 12, the East Bridgewater Girls Cross Country team defeated Cohassett in a huge win, with one team member almost making history.
The team is 2-0 so far by previously beating Rockland with a strong lead. They have about 15 girls, but only the top 7 can help guide the team to victory by scoring points.
This meet was at the East Bridgewater cross country course. The course is 3.11 miles, which is also known as a 5k. It consists of laps around the soccer field, baseball field, graveyard, and into a couple nearby neighborhoods.
Cross Country scoring is a bit different from other sports, because the lowest score wins. However, no pressure could stop 7th grader Gabrielle Holdsworth when she completed a 5k in 19 minutes. She was also 5 seconds away from attaining the course record.
More than half of the runners have gotten their personal best on this course; 9 out of 15. Some more meets to come later this season will be held in Cape Cod, Mashpee, Wrentham, and here in East Bridgewater. For the EB girls cross country team, their season is getting off to a great start.
East Bridgewater Football Starts 3-0 First Time Since 2016
10/2/24
By: Jalen Floryanzia, 11
East Bridgewater was a heavily doubted football program coming into the season. However, they’ve quietly obtained a record of 3-0. This 3-0 start was most certainly unexpected. The Vikings have gone 8-25 in the last 3 years. With Greg O’Sullivan being the newly hired head coach, he has completely turned the program around. Despite the numbers being low the Vikings are a team that is full of passionate and talented athletes.
With three wins against non-league opponents, such as Norton, Nauset, and Seekonk, East Bridgewater is entering their first league game against Rockland. The Rockland Bulldogs are looking to bounce back from their previous 3 losses with a league victory against the Vikings on the road.
A win against Rockland is a perfect way to start the upcoming league games, but it’s also the Vikings' debut game on their brand-new turf. With a lot of excitement about the new turf and outstanding record, the Vikings still need to handle business this week by getting a win against a hungry team looking for their first one.
The schedule after the Rockland home game is going to be tough for the Vikings. They have another home game following Rockland against Middleborough. They will face multiple tough opponents on the road such as Abington, Norwell, and Sandwich.
An undefeated record to start the season seems promising for the Vikings. It is still early into the season, and this is where teams begin to find their groove. Can the Vikings maintain their hot streak with a home opener against Rockland? Come to East Bridgewater High School at 7:00 pm this Friday to find out.
EBJSHS Offers New Comedy Club
2/5/24
By: Hannah McAlpine, 12
Meeting in the EBJSHS auditorium every Wednesday from 2:00-3:00PM under the direction of guidance counselors Ms. Nummelin and Mr. Murphy, comedy club is a student-driven group focusing on introducing members to the different elements of comedy performance and providing them with foundational skills to begin their comedic journey. From stand-up to skits, students build their confidence and skill set through games and exercises intended to support creativity and collaboration.
Comedy Club was founded by senior Anna Horton, an involved member in the EBJSHS music program. They were inspired to start the club by their participation in a summer leadership program related to an outside chorus they perform with. After putting together a game show for their final performance–one they called The Assumption Game–, they were struck by the joy and community that come out of collaborative performance. On the club’s impact and goals, Horton says, “Comedy Club is a place for everyone. Anyone can be funny, but to improvise and work with others is so much more fun and usually more entertaining than what we come up with alone. It’s really great in that it builds individual confidence and a sense of community.”
Composed of students in grades 7-12, Comedy Club poses a unique environment for students to perform for and learn from their peers, as well as an opportunity to practice working in partners, small groups, and as a whole. A recent focus of the club has been practicing the basics of improvisation in a large group, a skill requiring imagination, investment, and an openness to taking the story in any direction–a technique known as “yes, and-ing”. While being so readily open to creative inspiration may appear daunting or even nerve-wracking, the club provides an immediate sense of welcome and, according to one anonymous member, “Low stakes, [where you’re] encouraged to have fun and learn new things, because we’re all trying something new.” Members enjoy seeing one another succeed, and acknowledge that they all have much to learn.
Club activities include a variety of games found in improv instruction books, the internet, and the experience of club leaders; member favorites include one-word story building and mock interviews, among others. The unique and welcoming environment of the club is demonstrated in the ability of members to suggest activity ideas of their own and see them attempted by the group. While not all exercises are successful, they all provide a valuable opportunity for growth as a performer and experience for members to reflect on what went well and what they will change in their future practice.
Students can join Comedy Club simply by arriving at the EBJSHS auditorium at 2:00PM on a Wednesday with themselves (or a friend!), an open mind, and excitement to learn something new and engage with a strong community. Interested parties are encouraged to reach out to Ms. Nummelin, Mr. Murphy, or Anna Horton with questions–we look forward to seeing you there!
EBJSHS seniors yearn for more privileges
2/5/24
By: Calice Morton, 12
Each year at East Bridgewater High School, the seniors are given privileges as advantages over the rest of the school’s population. Senior privileges are recalculated each quarter considering behavior in classes, grades, tardies, along with absences. Seniors have the ability to come in late to school or leave early when they have their senior lab first or last period. With that being said, students who respectfully follow the rules and requirements to have a skip block should be granted the means to leave any block their senior lab falls under.
Given the opportunity to leave whichever block their skip period falls under, seniors would benefit an appreciable amount. In addition, seniors would be allowed more time to be independent, where they could find themselves at the gym, working, or going out to eat with friends. A multitude of students often get the school lunch on a day-to-day basis since they fail to find time to pack a lunch for themselves before school. However, having the privilege of leaving during lunch period, seniors wouldn’t have to eat the cafeteria lunch and could treat themselves to any meal they please.
The bothered seniors hope for changes to be made as they enter the final term of the school year. With hopes that the administration recognizes their good behavior, there will be an announcement to students and staff that upgraded rules will be implemented towards the senior privileges. These rules would include the privileges of leaving at any period throughout the day that a students’ senior lab falls under, instead of only being given the opportunity to leave first or last period.
Making these changes would pave the way for this year’s senior class along with future seniors at EBJSHS to benefit from the advantages of being upperclassmen.
EB Volleyball Win Against Waconah
By: A'mya Oliveira, 12
11/21/23
East Bridgewater’s varsity volleyball team wins against Waconah Regional High School in a 3-0 sweep. On Tuesday, November, 7, the girls’ volleyball team was filled with anxiety throughout the whole school day. The year prior, the girls were defeated by Waconah, but they were determined to get their revenge and were determined to win. Some girls brought in snacks and drinks for the excruciatingly long bus ride, approximately three and a half hours.
As the team arrived about an hour and a half before the game was scheduled, they spent thirty minutes talking about their goals and expectations for the game. Captains A’mya Oliveira and Paige Pavidis gave inspiring speeches about their positive outlook on the game. Come game time, the team peppered with each other and did the zigzag drill, as well as the three-man pepper drill.
The Vikings were trembling with anxiety as captains, A’mya Oliveira and Paige Pavidis went up for the coin toss, though all was well when they won and were able to serve first. After the warmups, it was game time. Freshman, Ayla Kingman (S), started off the game with a beautiful serve that led to an ace. The Viking's nerves calmed as Waconah continued to make mistakes.
The EB Vikings were able to take the first set with a set score of 25-23. Now, it was EB’s turn to be receiving the first serve, though they did it with ease. Waconah’s players began to crumble down on each other. They began to argue and fall apart, not used to the long rallies that East Bridgewater does best. The Vikings take the second set with a score of 25-11, all thanks to freshman, Emmy McNaught (OH/S) and her serves.
The third set came around, and East Bridgewater was determined to finish this game in a clean, 3-0 sweep. Ayla Kingman was up to serve again and started the set-off great. Strong sets and beautiful hits were seen by A’mya Oliveira (S), Paige Pavidis (MB), and Olivia McManus (OH/MB). The Vikings lost their footing for a few points, but could stand up straight again for the final winning ace of the game.
The bench ran to the court in joy and shock, and all the girls jumped up and down because of the phenomenal win.
Class of 2024 Powder puff game
By: Reese Neale, 12
11/20/23
The yearly tradition where the senior and junior girls are coached by some of the junior and senior boys. This game is played in November at the East Bridgewater Junior-Senior High School's football field.
The game started at 6:30 and the three captains for the seniors and juniors took center field. The three juniors; Claire McCormack, Maddie, Blette, and Ella Rix. The three seniors; Sarah Silvia, Rachel Rinker, and Reese Neale. Game started with juniors kicking off the seniors. Claire Caulton made the kick return of about 5 yards. First play of the game was for running back Calice Morton. The coaches made the change from running to our passing offense. The duo of quarterback, Grace Avery, threw the first touchdown pass to wide receiver, Rachel Rinker.
Senior Sarah Silvia kicked off to the juniors which was caught by junior Cece. The juniors made a good play with Grace Schnell with the first junior touchdown. Next senior possession was turned over on a fumble, which was a bad call because it was a dead ball out of bounds. Juniors didn't have the ball for long when they turned the ball over on downs by our 10 yards line. Seniors now with the ball again on the field our running offense. Quarterback Claire Caulton snapped by A’mya Olivera, and Running back Reese Neale, on the left side, with 80 rushing yards. Next play was run for Calice Morton, running back on the right side for the senior's second touchdown.
Juniors possession again and seniors put out a great defensive line up. This consisted of; Paige Pavidis, Leah Foley, Grace Avery, Reese Mullaney, A’mya Olivera, Reese Neale, and more. Now again with the kick-off to the seniors, Sarah Silvia scored the touchdown on the return. Juniors now with possession and that stacked defensive line back out there made another stop.
Seniors with the ball again and the running offense of the field. Claire Caulton with the toss to Reese Neale running down to about their 20-yard line. Then other running back Calice Morton with the next play scoring the final touchdown of the game.
This year's Powder puff was won by the Seniors 24-6. All around great performance from everyone.
EB Boys Soccer pulls 1-0 win Tuesday night vs. Abington
10/10/23
By: Anonymous
The East Bridgewater Boy's Soccer win 1-0 against Abington on Tuesday night. The goal was scored by sophomore, Jayden Wilson on a 20+ yard free kick. Men of the match were given to seniors, Conor Kohl, Aiden Toomey, and Grady Dewhurst.
The Vikings were solid in the back with Conor Kohl, Grady Dewhurst, and Aiden Toomey. Coleman McCarthy and Brody Lovell had great games as well. EJ Corliss had another shutout and came out of the game with positive thoughts and comments going into the next game on Thursday the 5th.
The game was very tight at the beginning, with both teams going back and forth on possession. At about halfway through the second half, a free kick was given to the Vikings and Jayden Wilson was able to put it in for the single goal of the game.
Coming out of the game with a 1-0 result was crucial for the Vikings and their rankings to qualify for the tournament. With this being the last game of the week for the soccer team, they look ahead to another week with three games.
As the middle of the season is upon the team, what is the results going forward going to be pulling through, arguably, the hardest part of the season.
East Bridgewater golf team looks to defend league title in 2023 season
9/16/23
By: Tom Hancock, 12
The East Bridgewater golf team looks to defend the first-ever league title after a 14-0 2022 season. The golf team ran through the league last year, beating team after team. We set a goal in our mind to win the league and looked at every match as our toughest. Norwell and Abington were tough competitors, Carver what we thought was an easy match almost ruined our perfect season. But the team successfully did it and became the 2022 League Champions for the first time.
The golf team started the year strong, beating Rockland, 113-95. The team is currently 5-1 as of 9/14/23 only losing to Sandwich. With a strong roster, the scores could come from anyone in the top 8 making us an all-around solid team.
Sandwich entered the South Shore League this year, throwing all sports teams a curveball. This news left sports teams wondering how good could they really be after being dropped down a league. But they proved how good they really are against the East Bridgewater golf team. But we plan to practice and grind up until the day we play them at home and send them on their long trip home with a loss. With a tough end of the year schedule, will the East Bridgewater golf team defend their League title?
EB Football looks to bounce back after week 1 loss against WB in shootout
By: Rio Donato, 12
9/15/23
After finishing 3-8 in 2022 after a disappointing season, East Bridgewater looked for vengeance heading into the 2023 season. Captains of the team considered them a dark horse in the South Shore, and they grinded each and everyday over the summer and into training camp, showing that it were legit.
While the Vikings looked to stick it to the Wildcats 3 years in a row, this was sadly not the case. But, despite the 44-41 loss, the Vikings put up an amazing fight and the offense was on fire, and looked the best it's been in 3 years, with QB Ethan Pohl throwing two touchdowns and over 200 passing yards. WR Chris Oman and RB Adian Clancy scored a pair of touchdowns each, and WR Gavin McLoud scored a 65 yard touchdown.
This Week, East Bridgewater takes on Nauset Regional High School, looking to get a big win on their home field. Along with that, East Bridgewater are looking to get revenge on Nauset because of the controversial call that cost the Vikings the game.
While East Bridgewater only has a 42-man roster, Nauset is even smaller, with only 32 players, but those kids are tough. But the Vikings want to show that they are one of the toughest, grittiest, teams in the South Shore, and they wanna prove to their fans they're a winning and competitive team this year, which we’ve seen in the Scrimmage and flashes in the West Bridgewater game.
East Bridgewater has been a winning teams in years prior, but they've slowly been losing that mentally, until now, we're this year everything seems to be clicking.
Students’ Debate on Viking Block
12/3/22
By: Audrey Fernau, 11
Over the past two weeks, students from the seventh to the twelfth grade have expressed immediate concern with the new Viking Block rules.
A recent announcement was shared with EB staff and students that new rules would be implemented to the midday homeroom period, Viking Block. The new rule is that students would have to report to their assigned VB every day instead of having the chance to go to teachers, other Viking Blocks, or to walk in the hallways.
Many of the upset students believe that their rights during the period are being stepped on by Administration, but others believe that the only truly upsetting part about the recent announcement is the inability to see teachers without calling ahead and making a whole thing out of it - when prior to the rule, all that was required was a pass.
The majority of the frustration with the rule comes from students missing out on the social piece of Viking Block, and the need that most people (including myself) have for a break in the middle of the day to talk to their friends, especially the ones that they share no classes with.
Some students have signed a change.org petition started in hopes of gaining enough attention to the “cause”, and it’s already gotten just over 200 signatures. This petition and the mention of a student-led “protest” may remind some of the protest over the schedule change around three years ago, where a few hundred students walked out onto the football field and shared their grievances of the switch from the 7-class schedule to the 4-class schedule.
On December 5th, after school, Mr. Klements plans on hosting a faculty and student meeting in the auditorium to speak about the issue - where students can voice their opinions and ask questions about the problem.
EB Homecoming 2022
10/26/22
By: Lainey Berry, 10
Our EB Homecoming took place the last week of October this year. Many events took place during this eventful week, including a school wide spirit week. The week started off with dressing up, to see which grade had the most points. Monday, was Soccer Mom vs. BBQ Dad, Tuesday was Childhood Shows, Wednesday was Country vs. Country Club, Thursday was 80s Fitness, and Friday was Viking Pride Day. The class of 2022 seniors ended up winning and beating the rest of the school.
Friday had been filled with events. During the last block, we had our annual pep rally. The Fall Varsity sport teams walked out, the band performed songs, the cheerleaders performed a routine, there were Minute-to-Win-It games, and the football players performed a cheerleading routine. The pep rally was filled with excitement, and a great way to end the school day.
Later that Friday came the football game. Students filled the student section, and many parents showed up to the game against Middleboro. Even though the Vikings lost, we still heard the news of the King and Queen. The cheerleaders and band also performed a halftime routine for everyone to see. Overall, it was a huge success!
To end homecoming week was the dance that took place on the following Saturday, from 6-8 PM. Many people spent the day getting their nails and hair done, buying last-minute items, and overall getting ready for the dance. People got ready with friends and family prior, and got to take pictures to remember these moments right before it started. The gym was filled with students, and the music was loud and joyful while everyone was dancing the night away. Homecoming week was a great start to the school year!
EB Anatomy and Physiology Class Begins Cat Dissection
10/12/22
By: Shannon Cyr, 12
On October 4, 2022, EB High School Honors Anatomy and Physiology class, taught by Mr. Silva, begins dissections using euthanized shelter cats who were donated to science. For many students, this is their very first dissection, and starting with a cat is proving to be a challenging task as many students have cats as pets. Schools typically begin dissections with small species like frogs. However, this class is beginning with domesticated cats. Some may say that this kind of jump is too big for high school students, but there is good reasoning behind this leap.
When dissecting frogs, the anatomy is dissimilar to human anatomy. Frogs lack several vertebrae as well as a pelvis and have anatomical structures that humans do not possess like urostyle and skin that can breathe and absorb water. Frogs’ internal organs are also all held in the same body cavity whereas humans are not.
Cats, on the other hand, are far more similar to humans anatomically speaking. Many of the bones cats contain are identical to those in the human body. Cats have clavicles and temporal, occipital, frontal, and parietal lobes within their cerebral cortex like humans. We also both possess neurotransmitters that allow us to have similar thinking patterns. So, although it is sad, it makes sense that this class would begin by dissecting cats as a cat is as close as we can get to studying human anatomy in school.
There are many steps that this class will complete with these dissections. First, every table group gets its animal to study. They then must prepare it by draining the preservation chemicals. The students must label all of the external anatomies of the cat and take photos of these areas labeled. This is the furthest spot that the classes have reached so far, but soon to come will be the integumentary system where students will study hair, skin, nails, etc. The class will begin studying the cat by layer, external to internal with the skin, muscle, tissue, bone, and organs.
This dissection project will likely take many months to complete. To compile all of the class findings, each table group is expected to create a private website displaying all of the information found. This is a very difficult project for many students both emotionally and physically, but to study human anatomy and physiology and prepare for a future in medicine, it’s very important.
East Bridgewater Volleyball Wins Against Middleboro
9/21/22
By: Caitlyn Gallagher, 12
The East Bridgewater girls volleyball team wins 3-1 against Middleboro on September 14th to improve their record to 1-3. The Vikings walked into Middleboro's new gym with some nerves knowing that they haven’t won a game yet. With a strong performance by all, the Lady Vikings were able to take home the win.
These nerves were eased when Senior captains; Caitlyn Gallagher, Mia Brunaccini, and Piper Bradbury won the coin toss. This meant East Bridgewater would be serving first. Junior starter Paige Pavidis allowed the Vikings to go on a run and rack up some points. This was a good start for the Vikings and set the tone for the rest of the game. The East Bridgewater girls led the rest of the set securing the win and making the score 1-0.
Excitement got to the Vikings, and they started to fall behind in the second set. Middleboro had the serve, and they went on a run. After getting the serve back, the Vikings rallied up points making it a close game. Due to being unorganized, the Vikings let up their lead, and Middleboro took the win in the second set.
In the third set, the Vikings were hungry for a win and ready to go. Keeping the same lineup; Caitlyn Gallagher (OH/MB), Mia Brunaccini (S), Adriana Amicangioli (OH), Paige Pavidis (OH) Amya Oliveira (S), Madeline Blette (L), and Piper Bradbury (OH/MB), the Vikings took the immediate lead. Great saves by Paige Pavidis and a beautiful backset by Caitlyn Gallagher helped the Vikings secure the win in the third set.
The EB girls were ready for the fourth set and were eager to win. Amazing sets made by Mia Brunaccini and Amya Oliveira made it possible for Caitlyn Gallagher to get nine kills throughout the game and five blocks. Paige Pavidis and Piper Bradbury’s performances in the fourth set were also ones to remember, each getting multiple kills. The Vikings took home the win after Middleboro failed to return a free pass.
EB Boys Soccer defeats the Norwell Clippers for the first time in 12 years

By: Grady Dewhurst, 11
East Bridgewater Vikings win a historic game 2-1 against the Norwell Clippers at the East Bridgewater turf on Monday, September 12, 2022.
For the last 12 years, the Norwell Clippers have always beaten the East Bridgewater Vikings program. On Monday, the Vikings huddled up and gave a monumental speech, ending with the shouting of “Let's shock the league.” The team knew they had to deal with the well-rested Clippers that had not played since last Wednesday. The team came out flying, and the Vikings had to hold it down and take their chances as they came. With 20 minutes to play in the first half, Lucas Silvia sends Zach Higgins towards the goal, and he slots in the bottom left after dribbling through defenders. Vikings score a debatable offside goal by Grady Dewhurst with 5 minutes left in the first. Vikings go into the half up 1-0.
The Clippers came out steaming during the second half. The Vikings tried to remain calm and play simple. Ten minutes into the second half, Nick Mesheau plays a ball over the top to Lucas Silvia. Silvia goes up with the goalie and somehow comes out of the challenge with the ball at his feet and an open net, with no whistles blown for fouls. The Clippers find revenge on a corner kick after John Mullen #27 squares the ball up on his head and hits it back post to make it 2-1 with 16 minutes left. The Vikings packed it in and tried to clear the ball to stay alive for 15 minutes. After many clutches saved by Anthony Patate and solid defense the Vikings retained on top for the first time in 12 years. To top it off, they celebrated with a team dinner later that night.

Monday is where green for mental health, Tuesday is Tie Dye, Wednesday is Disney day, Thursday is Decades day, and Friday is Rainbow Pride day. Please come to school decked out in your Pride attire! Additionally, during the morning announcements, students will be sharing a fact about the history and culture until the last day of school.

Girls WEB Ice Hockey hopeful to make tournament for the first time
2/15/22
By: Meaghan Powers, 12
The Girls WEB hockey team is hopeful to make the tournament this year due to an amazing season. Currently the girls are 33 and they need to move up to 32 to qualify for the tournament. This is the four year the team has been active. Their first two years they played in the JV league due to being such a new team with players who just started skating. When they finally moved up to the Varsity level, they struggled. Not winning a single game or even tying the whole season. This didn't stop the girls though, they kept practicing and kept showing up. This year the team was hungry and ready to make it their best season yet. WEB has 9 seniors this year so they will be losing a lot of valuable players after the season is over. The girls record this year is 6-8-1. This means they have won 6 more games than they did last year. They have lost more than they have won but the team has played the 10th place and 8th place teams. There were some very difficult games but the girls fought hard and still had a chance to make it. They have two more games left of the season and if they win both, they have a really good chance of making it. This would be the first time in WEB history that they have made the tournament!
EB football team loses to Abington
10/18/21
By: Wil Long, 12
East Bridgewater football faces a heartbreaking loss to Abington on Friday, October 15. The Vikings broke their scoreless streak and put up 27 points. The offense was led by freshman Ethan Pohl. The Starting quarterback Jake Shaw was dealing with an ankle injury and was out for the week. Injuries plagued the Vikings team as both senior Defensive linemen Xavier Quabner and Wil Long were out with elbow dislocations. Senior linebacker, Cole DelVecchio was forced to leave the game with a shoulder injury and did not return. Despite the injuries, there is still hope for the team as they look to beat this week's opponent Norwell. A notable performance from Running back, Aidan Purcell helped the offense as he had both a rushing and throwing a touchdown. Purcell now has a passer rating of 153.8. Coach Tim Graham will no doubt push the kids in practice this week. Coach Graham coaxes the best from his plays and is never satisfied with average, as he so often states. The East Bridgewater Vikings should remain on the opposing team's radar as they are proving to be tough kids.
What’s up with EB Soccer?
10/5/21
By: Spencer Orofino, 11
What’s going on with the Viking before a big Friday night clash with an undefeated Rockland squad? After losing a total of 12 seniors, and having four returning starters, and coming off of a horrific three-win season last year. This year's East Bridgewater Vikings seem to be extremely motivated as they have doubled their win total from last year after the first month of the season. The Vikings are about to enter their toughest stretch of the year with a 6-1-1 record the Viking play host against undefeated Rockland and Norwell, and a one-loss Cohasset. EB has won impressive games against Randolph, Falmouth, and Middleboro. They have scored 21 goals in the 8 games they have played, leading scorer and Junior Captain, Mathias Floeck, scored five times last week when the Vikings beat Randolph. Mathias Floeck and Zach Higgins, the two Juniors captains lead their team. EB has played some stellar defense with a backline led by center-backs Aidan Toomey and Spencer Orofino. Also behind third-year starting goalie Anthony Patate. The Vikings also rolled into the year with a first-year head coach, Pat Horgan. Coach Horgan has said that “Sure we’ve won all of these games, but we still haven’t reached any of our goals for the year yet.”
Upcoming Events for EBJSHS this October
10/1/21
By: Natalie West, 10
After everything that was missed this past year because of Covid, there is so much to look forward to in the incoming weeks. Starting on October 7th and 8th students have half days due to parent-teacher conferences. Then Monday the 11th there is no school because it is Columbus day. The next day, Tuesday starts spirit days for homecoming! The themes for the week are Tuesday: superhero day, Wednesday: pajama day, Thursday: Viking pride, and Friday: breast cancer awareness.
Sadly, the actual homecoming dance that was supposed to be on October 16th was postponed. The dance was postponed due to Covid and wanting to see if it will get better, so the dance doesn’t have to be held outside. There is not another date at the moment for the dance, but hopefully, it will be soon.
Although there is no dance there are a lot of exciting sports games this week as well. On the 12th there are cross-country meets against Carver-Middle High and Soccer against Norwell High. Golf has a meet versus Cohasset, soccer will take on Abington as well as Volleyball all on the 13th. Thursday, the 14th is the big football game against Abington at 6 pm. The 14th is also when we will have the homecoming pep rally during school. Friday there are a lot of sports happening, but one big game is the Varsity girls field hockey game against Mashpee at 5:45 pm. The first few weeks of October have so much planned that no one should want to miss!
East Bridgewater Girls Varsity Volleyball defeats Mashpee with a 3-0 sweep
9/27/21
By: Haley Murphy, 12
The Vikings are led by 8 seniors, who look to finish the rest of the season off strong and continue with the momentum they have created so far. The Vikings took the hour 10-minute journey to Mashpee high school ready to compete for their 6th game of the season. Upon arrival on September 27, 2021, the Viking came out with unbeatable and lose energy. At first, the Mashpee Falcons were charging ahead of the Vikings, pulling away in the first set, until the Vikings flipped a switch, winning the first set. Things turned around when senior Hannah Burton, gathered nine points all in serves for the Lady Vikings.
In the next two sets, things began to heat up even more. The Vikings dominated with sets from Mia Brunaccini, Haley Murphy, and Paige Pavidis. Following the placement of the sets, crucial kills were performed by Caitlyn Gallagher (junior), Caroline Toomey (Senior), Sophie Caulton(Senior), and Gia Spicuzza (Senior). Defensive saves were also big in this win.
Not only did this win boost the morale of the Vikings, but it also put them in a better position to get above fifty percent to advance in the tournament. This would make history in East Bridgewater as they have never had a Varsity Volleyball team advance to the tournament. The Vikings have a competitive schedule coming up this next week, including games against Randolph, Carver, and Calvary Chapel. We hope to see the Vikings sweep the week to increase their record to 7-3.
