Burrito Protein bowls are very customary. You can take your favorite Mexican food and make your own creation. Here is my favorite ingredients to add:
Ground turkey or chicken: Saute in pan for 10 minutes, You can put taco seasoning or hot sauce. For vegetarians: Costco black bean veggie burgers are so good
Corn
Black beans (chili powder adds flavor)
Lettuce
Tomato
Guacamole: Mash the avocado. Add diced purple onion, tomato and cilantro
Brown rice (with lime juice): Cook Minute rice in the microwave for 10 minutes.
Mexican cheese
Diced olives
Salsa or pico de gallo
Cilantro on top!
To assemble your bowl, put the rice as the first layer with the meat. Then put all the toppings in and enjoy. I like to add hot sauce. Serving with tortilla chips.
The Perfect Meal
5/17/22

Looking for the perfect meal? Here is a guide to how you can make the perfect meal for yourself.
Protein
Every meal you have should have some source of protein. Protein is an essential nutrient in your diet and helps with muscle tissue and energy. Meat is the most simple and common source of protein. From steak to chicken to fish, there are plenty of options and each can be made to your liking. However, meat isn’t the only source of protein. You can also indulge in other foods like eggs, beans, greek yogurt, and more.
Vegetables
Vegetables contain essential micronutrients and are completely overlooked nowadays. Although they may not be the tastiest category of food, there are plenty of options and even if they aren’t delicious they can definitely be tolerable. Some prime examples are broccoli, cabbage, carrots, peppers, and kale. Vegetables are important to experiment with and try new things.
Carbs
The category of carbohydrates is a very general selection of food. Some carbs can absolutely kill your diet. However, carbohydrates are the primary source of energy. They are also very calorie-dense so depending on your body goals, the servings of carbs people will eat will vary greatly. Noodles, potatoes, and rice are some of the most simple and tastiest examples of carbs.
Fats
The last part of creating your perfect meal is to add in fats. Like carbs, fats can be either very good or very bad. Stick to unsaturated fats and lean away from trans fats. Vegetable oils, nuts, seeds, and butter are some of the best fats.
*Bonus*
Water
Drinking water with every meal will help with digestion and of course, keep you hydrated. You can drink other forms of liquid like milk or juice, but water is without a doubt the best liquid for your health. Along with that, you can add some electrolytes to your water to make it an even more effective form of hydration. There are flavored electrolyte supplements that make your water taste more like a juice so you can get the best of both worlds.
With all of this information, you can use these categories to make any meal you want. Personally, my favorite meal is chicken broccoli ziti. It hits each category to perfection: chicken for protein, broccoli for a vegetable, noodles for a carb, and olive oil for fat. And of course, for the bonus, a propel water to top it off. Using this system to build your meals will ensure that you are filling your body with the nutrients you need.

Victorian Desert
11/19/21
By Maggie Francis, 12
The Victorian Era is famous for its gossips, high teas, and baked good accompaniments. You would expect most of these treats to be dull in comparison to the processed and sugary foods that Americans primarily eat today, however, this recipe proves to show quite the opposite. A mix between your favorite birthday cake and strawberry shortcake, this simple and delicious Victorian Sponge and Strawberry-filled dessert was said to be a favorite of Queen Victoria herself.
Ingredients
6.1 ounces of softened butter
6.1 ounces of white sugar
3 eggs
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
6.1 ounces of all-purpose flour
1 pinch of salt
1 ½ teaspoon of baking powder
7 ounces of heavy cream
7 ounces of halved strawberries
2.8 ounces of sugar
1 teaspoon of lemon juice
1 cup of heavy whipping cream
2 tablespoons of confectioners’ sugar
½ teaspoon of pure vanilla extract
Instructions (cake)
Preheat Oven to 350 degrees and prepare two 18cm cake pans
Combine the butter and sugar in a mixer for five minutes in order to achieve an airy texture
Mix in the eggs one by one and mix on high for 2 minutes
Stir in Vanilla Extract
Stir in flour, salt, and baking powder with a spatula
Pour the batter into the two prepared cake pans and bake for 20-30 minutes
Allow cake to cool before frosting with whipped cream and strawberry filling
Instructions (frosting)
Begin by making the jam component of the frosting
Mix together the strawberries, sugar, and lemon juice in a saucepan and place it aside off the heat for 10 minutes
Cook on low heat until the fruit is softened enough that you can use a spoon or smasher to create a jam consistency
Next, make the whipped cream portion
Combine the heavy whipping cream, confectioner’s sugar, and vanilla extract and mix with a stand/hand mixer on high for about 5 minutes or until the mixture thickens and peaks
Pour your jam into the whipped cream and mix together
Next, assemble your cake with the whipped cream frosting in the middle and a small portion on top for garnish

As we are nearing the Holiday Season, you are going to need all the recipes you can get to please your family. Something I know many people enjoy during the Holidays is the variety of food available right at their fingertips. From the yearly array of pies to the store-bought cookies and brownies, it can get pretty old. So why not try something not only homemade but versatile as well, Hot Fudge! Not only will it bring something different to the dessert game at your next holiday party, but it’s quick and easy to make which is crucial to the time crunch that comes with preparing all the foods and entrees. To start you will need:
½ cup of unsweetened cocoa powder
⅓ cup of granulated sugar
⅓ cup of packed dark brown sugar
3 tablespoons of butter or margarine
½ cup of whipping cream
Directions - In a small bowl, stir together the cocoa powder, granulated sugar, and brown sugar; set it aside. In a heavy small saucepan, melt the butter with the whipping cream over low heat, stirring constantly until the mixture bubbles around the edges. Add the sugar mixture and cook it, stirring constantly until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is smooth and thickened. You can either serve it instantly or wait till it cools and store it in the fridge. It can stay good for up to a week if kept in the fridge. To reheat, put it on the stovetop in a small heavy saucepan and stir frequently over low heat until it is ready. That's it! Good luck this Holiday season, stay safe, and Enjoy!
