Hi! My name is Sarah Long and I am a student at Andover High School, attending American University next year. I love nature and know how important it is to protect it, which is one of the reasons I joined Global Pathways. I also want to enhance my knowledge of different cultures and life around the world because it is so fascinating to learn how different my life is from someone else's on one planet. I value traveling and have an incredibly strong urge to see the world. Outside of the States, I enjoyed Puerto Rico and St. Thomas. There was so much beauty, culture, and life in such small places and I loved every second of being in both of them.
I am very passionate about the environment and I greatly stress the importance of keeping it clean. I'm interested in learning about the climate crisis and how it is affecting our lives and the lives of countries and populations across the planet. I want to learn about conservation of nature and the role that each of us can have. That is why, after graduation, I am studying Environmental Studies at American University in Washington, DC. I want to make sure that the climate crisis is turned around. I also care for the animals that inhabit the Earth, especially the endangered ones, and I am going to work with them somewhere along the way.
I am involved in a handful of activities that are targeted towards healing nature. With COVID-19 hitting the world, I was able to continue my involvement in those activities through many online calls and a few safe meetups. Even though there was a global pandemic, the climate crisis continues to worsen at alarming rates. I enjoy picking up trash from trails or the sides of the road and learning about protection of the planet as part of my global service. One part of the world I would love to continue that service in is Switzerland because it is beautiful and I would love to learn their methods of sustainability.
