Year 2 Professional Growth Goal:
By June 2022, I will effectively plan lessons geared towards building students leadership skills which will foster their transition back to on campus instruction. I will use the results of multiple six week student Google Form Surveys to develop or modify my lesson planning.
Revisiting My Goal
As we began year two we were still feeling the effects of the Covid -19 Pandemic. We were able to begin the year in person, which was a step in the right direction, but transition back to on campus instruction was difficult for many students. My goal for the year was to help build our leadership class on campus to help with students transition back to campus life. Everything we planned we made sure to center around social emotional wellbeing. We wanted to create a welcoming environment to help the students feel safe returning to campus while also creating excitement to be at school. I was surprised that my ASB students could adapt so quickly to the "new normal" and preserver over Covid regulations. One example was our Hispanic Heritage Celebration in which we were unable to bring in performers to play for us, so the ASB students found multiple student musicians and brought them together to play. I want to show a sample of what this looked like below.
*Please note these students have never played together before this performance.
Moving Forward
Looking forward in my career, a goal that I have is to build this leadership program to be student centered. I want the students to take ownership in this program and create something here no other school has. People can do amazing things and I want others to see what Rubidoux students can do.
Advice for New Teachers
I tell my students is to find something they are passionate about and pursue it. Same goes for teachers. Make sure you are passionate about the subject you are teaching, and the grade level you have chosen. You have chosen a wonderful rewarding career.
