ART CLASS – UNIVERSAL PROJECT GRADING RUBRIC

(Applies to all projects: drawing, painting, ceramics, and 3D design)

Your grade is based on:
• Following Directions
• Craftsmanship & Skill
• Effort & Use of Class Time

You are not graded on talent, but your effort in learning obtainable skills taught in class. 

40% of your grade is PROJECTS - 25% of your grade is STUDIO SKILLS - 20% SKETCHES and NOTES - 15% of your grade is STUDIO HABITS and PROFESSIONALISM

Think of projects like major tests in other classes. If you're missing one it's going to bring down your grade a LOT. 

Projects (40%) - Complex work that has clear, step by step instructions. 

Studio Skills (25%) - Specific skills (such as blending without scribbling, drawing lightly, how to clean brushes) that can be practiced.

Sketches and Notes (20%) - The research phase of being an artist. Learning about art history, vocabulary and planning/practicing for your projects.

Studio Habits and Professionalism (15%) - Are you cleaning up after yourself? Cleaning brushes correctly? Arriving on time?  

GRAding breakdown

4 – Outstanding Work (A+, 100%)

• Followed all directions and requirements

• Demonstrates high skill and excellent craftsmanship

• Shows careful planning and strong attention to detail

• Project is neat, intentional, and fully finished

• Used class time responsibly and stayed on task

This work goes beyond basic expectations and reflects strong effort and pride.

4 – Strong Work (B, 85%)

• Followed most directions and requirements

• Demonstrates solid skill and good craftsmanship

• Project is complete and mostly neat

• Used class time appropriately

This work meets expectations and shows consistent effort.

3 – Satisfactory Work (C, 75%)

• Missed some directions or requirements

• Skill and craftsmanship are inconsistent

• Project may be partially rushed or lack refinement

• Needed reminders to stay focused

This work meets minimum expectations but lacks care or consistency.

2 – Limited Work (D, 65%)

• Did not fully follow directions

• Craftsmanship is weak or careless

• Project appears rushed or incomplete

• Frequently off task during class time

This work does not demonstrate understanding or effort.

Missing Assignments will be given a 0 until turned in.

Your grade is not about talent.
It is about effort, following directions, and craftsmanship.

All projects may be reworked for a higher grade. 

Studio skills can be retested at any time.
