In the first two trimesters of JUHS Drawing and Painting, we focus on building the foundations of artistic skill and knowledge. Through Art History and hands-on practice, you’ll strengthen your drawing and painting abilities. These early trimesters lay the groundwork for your artistic growth — because strong skills lead to powerful expression.
Use the block-in and envelope method to create accurate, well-proportioned drawings.
Demonstrate clear value changes using a variety of materials.
Develop skill and control with multiple mediums, including acrylic paint, colored pencil, and graphite.
Strengthen fine motor skills and hand–eye coordination through consistent artistic practice.
Work quietly with focus in a studio environment.
Develop an art vocabulary and use it to observe and discuss various works of art.
