Foundations in Art (Art A and B)

Welcome!

In the first two trimesters of JUHS Drawing and Painting, we focus on building the foundations of artistic skill and knowledge. Through Art History and hands-on practice, you’ll strengthen your drawing and painting abilities. These early trimesters lay the groundwork for your artistic growth — because strong skills lead to powerful expression.

Goals

• Use the block-in and envelope method to create accurate, well-proportioned drawings.

• Demonstrate clear value changes using a variety of materials.

• Develop skill and control with multiple mediums, including acrylic paint, colored pencil, and graphite.

• Strengthen fine motor skills and hand–eye coordination through consistent artistic practice.

• Work quietly with focus in a studio environment. 

• Develop an art vocabulary and use it to observe and discuss various works of art.
