The Mona Elementary School Parent Involvement Policy has been developed and adopted by regular education teachers, Instructional Assistants, PAC (Parent Advisory Committee) members, our school staff, and administration.

Our mission statement at Mona Elementary School states our collective belief that every student should have the opportunity to learn successfully. High achievement, academically and socially, is our goal. We believe a critical dimension of school-wide and individual student achievement is parental involvement. In order to promote and provide opportunity for parental involvement, the staff at Mona Elementary are committed to the following:

School Goals and Responsibilities:

• Develop and translate into action sound educational policies and procedures, ensure adequate parent representation/contribution.

• Provide a supportive and effective learning environment that meets the needs of all students.

• Establish ongoing supervision and evaluation processes for instruction and student learning.

• Provide high-quality engaging instruction for all students.

• Establish clear, concise, and attainable learning targets.

• Use common assessment tools to monitor results, provide interpretation of such results.

• Provide appropriate strategic interventions for struggling students.

• Ensure resources are available for all students.

• Provide timely and meaningful information/response to suggestions to students and parents.

• Involve parents in an organized, ongoing, and timely way, in planning, reviewing, and improvement of school programs.

  

Information Distribution:

• The Parent Involvement Policy for Mona Elementary will be posted in the school office and on the school website:

A copy of this policy will be sent home to all families of returning students in the school handbook provided at the beginning of each school year, and to all new families at initial registration.

• Information related to school and parent programs will be communicated through the school and PAC (monthly) newsletters, school and classroom notes, at Back to School Night, student-parent-teacher conferences, and during monthly PAC (School Community Council) meetings.

• Classroom teachers will provide and discuss academic achievement information to parents during student-parent-teacher conferences, parent/teacher meetings, and through printed information as needed.

• The Student-Parent-School compact outlines how students, parents, and the school will share the responsibility for improved student achievement. The compact will be distributed through the school handbook and revisited at each student-parent-teacher conference.

  

Parent Participation:

• Parents will have the opportunity to participate in and receive supporting materials to improve students' levels of achievement and enjoyment of learning through Parent Involvement meetings i.e. Back to School Night, and Literacy/ Mathematics Nights.

• Parents are encouraged to participate in school decision making regarding the education of their children through direct communication with the principal, teachers, and all school staff members, at PAC (Parent Advisory Committee) meetings, School Community Council meetings, at all parent meetings and student-teacher-parent conferences.

• Parents will work jointly with the school to study need and develop school improvement plans and the Student- Parent –School Compact. Parent groups will evaluate and provide feedback for both the school improvement plans and the Student -Parent – School Compact yearly.

• Scheduled yearly student-parent-teacher conferences provide opportunity for parents to ask questions, voice suggestions, and be a part of the decision making team regarding the education of their children.

• Within established parameters, parents are invited to participate in the classroom instruction, tutoring, and other school activities that involve their students.

• Parents are encouraged (and often enlisted) to volunteer in many capacities and help at school in their student's classroom and with school sponsored programs and activities.

  

Meeting Schedules:

• Parent meetings and conferences will be held at various times to meet the needs of all families.

• The PAC (Parent Advisory Committee) and School Community Council meeting schedules will be posted at the beginning of the school year at the school, on the school website, through the PAC Newsletter, and through school-to-parent communication notes.

• Parents are invited, and encouraged to attend all scheduled meetings to share ides for school improvement to bring about increased student achievement and school-community success.

At Mona Elementary School, we believe the school-family partnership working together serves as a catalyst adding tremendous strength in supporting students to achieve expected learning outcomes successfully , enriching the total educational experience and school-wide instructional program. We believe parental involvement has the greatest impact when parents, students, and the school share responsibility for the growth and development of each student. We believe that through diligent planning and implementation, the goals and plans outlined in our Parent Involvement Policy will serve as the vehicle for continued parental involvement, school improvement, and success for each of our students.
