Shannon Sanders was in the class of 85 at JT Moore and was voted most musically talented. At JT Moore most of the kids make long lasting friends and that was true for Shannon Sanders. According to him, making long lasting friends was his favorite memory about JT Moore. Some of the kids in band and strings have never picked up an instrument until JT Moore and that is the same thing with Shannon Sanders. He was a trumpet player at JT Moore, and he was always the first chair so sometimes the band teacher would call him out of class to play with the older kids. As we all know JT Moore is preparing us for the future, and the school was trying to do that back in 1985. Shannon Sanders said himself that JT Moore has prepared him by having such a diverse and nurturing culture. One thing that Shannon Sanders has to say to young aspiring musicians is, “Authenticity is everything, be your own voice.” He also has kids and has said having kids has made him more aware of what your lyrics say. After JT Moore and Hillsboro he went onto TSU and from there he has worked with a ton of famous artists like John Legend, Fisk Jubilee singers, and more. He has won two grammys, three emmys, and one dove award. He has shown us you do not need a fancy education or a private teacher to become successful.
