New USBE Science Microcredentials!

A microcredential, also known as a badge, is a digital form of certification indicating demonstrated competency of a specific skill. A microcredential represents an educator’s demonstration of effective and consistent use of the target skill or concept as a part of instructional practice.

Microcredentials give the learner three things: visible recognition of demonstrated competency, leadership opportunities, and USBE credit. They can be posted to your webpage and social media or added to your resume so potential employers can see your skillset.

Workshops are hands-on and interactive, with a focus on activities that participants can directly use in their classroom to satisfy state SEEd standards.

Workshops will be from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm in the Meldrum Innovation Laboratory. Workshops are 1 University of Utah Credit each. Each course fee is $100.

SCIENCE INSTRUCTION

Data Science Education: Making data work in math and science class

"Staying relevant to students while preparing them to be succesful in the future is the winning formula that all teachers hope their curriculum achieves.

This includes more than just teaching students the facts. It's also about finding ways to teach that build additional, valuable skills they'll continue using long after your class is over. "

A Tale of Two Classrooms: How different approaches to participation shape learning

"By representing and upholding equitable communities and participatory structures that ensure powerful learning opportunities for children, especially those from marginalized communities, teachers and administrators can help change the world..."

Jordan School District ISC Resource

The Instructional Support Center (ISC) is a district program that is available for teachers to prepare instructional materials to support classroom instruction. One of the best resources they have is the ability to print and laminate full-color posters for a fraction of the cost that regular print centers charge. You can use your legislative or department (if allowed by your principal) funds to pay for the posters and they can send them to you through district mail!

All you need to do is create or find a poster, save as pdf, and email the ISC. Click the link below for specific costs and directions.
