DragonSteel Nexus: Stepping into a new World

By Evan Copp

Entering the Salt Palace is like entering a new world, a collection of cosplayers walking around next to large banners depicting their characters. Vendors selling goods and large decorations marking large sections of the exhibit hall. And to cap it all off in one corner there was a santa with a giant Christmas tree sword. This is Dragon Steel Nexus, a gathering place of authors, book readers, and anyone who wished to participate.

DragonSteel Nexus is a book convention where a new book is released and authors gather to show what they’ve created. Famous theorisers come to share theories, vendors come to sell homemade merch and to show off costumes. All of it blends together to form DragonSteel, all of the posters, games, and shops forming this incredible experience.

On the third day thousands of people left, leaving with full bugs of merchandise and branded shirts. They leave with smiles, talking amongst themselves as they head home. DragonSteel unites thousands of fans, making it a resounding success.

Wicked for Good Review

By Arik Sala

*Spoilers*

First off the movie Wicked for Good gets a 5 out of 5 stars from me. Wicked for Good the sequel the the 2024 broadway remake movie remake was released on Nov 21, 2025.  The movie concluded the story started by Wicked which was the backstory about The Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda in high school. Wicked For Good is act 2 of the broadway musical which was based off the book written by Gregory Magurie. The movie starred Cynthia Erivo as The Wicked Witch also known as Elphaba and Ariana Grande who played Glinda.

The movie showed us the truth about the Wicked Witch and how she wasn't really wicked. It also showed us that her sister's death was murder and she was killed by a friend of the Wizard named Madame Morrible. We learned that Glinda and the witch were friends and that Glinda was once a spoiled brat who had lots of development. Another thing we learn is that the Wizard was a bad guy who made the people of Oz hate talking animals and that he was Elphaba's father.

In the end, Wicked for Good was a really good movie with amazing characters. The story itself was awesome and it was a great broadway adaptation. The best song to me in the movie was definitely "No Good Deed" sung by Cynthia. I would recommend this movie to anyone that enjoys musicals. It was an amazing conclusion to the first Wicked movie even with there being drama with actors lately.

A Frozen Caveman

By Lily Jensen

As the winter season starts, it’s normal to start seeing a mass amount of snowman decor; whether it’s Frosty or Olaf, snowmen are a common and popular winter staple. What I have yet to see is people talking about Otzi the Iceman, a favourite for those interested in human history.

Otzi is a Neolithic era mummified human, named after the mountains he was found on, the Tirolean Otzal Alps. Otzi has been a critical piece to the expanding knowledge of human history because of how naturally well preserved he was, essentially being freeze-dried.

Naturally, when he was found, it was thought that he died from cold exposure, being in the cold mountains. But after further examination, they found a possibly fatal wound in the shoulder inflicted by an arrowhead. So not only is he a critical piece of history, but also a Neolithic murder victim. I highly recommend it if you're interested in looking into the huge amount of research done on him, especially for fellow true crime followers like me.

Movie Review: Truth & Treason

The Boy Who Spoke the Truth

By Aaron Hunt and Hannah Marble

Setting the stage in the midst of a war filled Germany 1941, young teen Halmuth Hubener starts to realize the lies that Hitler has been spreading throughout his country. Truth and Treason tells the story of that teenager who struggles to navigate his loyalty to his religion and step up to the truth.

As a devout Latter-day Saint, he realizes Hitler is spreading lies that go against his faith. Church leaders he felt he understood and trusted were now saying things he didn’t understand or agree with. Using a typewriter and a strong belief against Hitler he begins writing anti-propaganda notes with information from the American radio that he has hidden away in his room. Hubener struggles with his internal battle as he watches his friends get hurt and taken from him. But all it does is push him further in his mission to spread the truth.

As first time watchers of the movie we enjoyed the captivating feeling of constantly wondering what the consequences might be for his actions. We agree with the statement Micheal Medved makes on the Rotten Tomatoes website when he says “A remarkable, unforgettable story brought to life with superb performances–one of the most memorable films of the year.”

The way that the actors portrayed their fear whilst also the outstanding courage was almost perfected throughout the movie and had us moved. We recommend you see this movie for yourself in theatres for its captivating chase-like feel!

Some say that the movie struggled in dramatizing the story, in fact reviews have said it is what it is and nothing more. But we can see this criticism as a compliment to the director and his accuracy to the true and amazing story that is Halmuth Hubener.

Coraline Movie Review

By Kairo Lara

Coraline is a dark and imaginative movie about a girl who finds a secret door that leads to another world. At first, everything there seems better than her real life, but things don’t turn out how they seem, especially when her “Other Mother” shows her true character and intentions. The stop-motion animation the movie uses suits it well and adds to its originality.

I liked that the moral of the story was to be appreciative of what you have and not to take it for granted. Coraline's character is inquisitive and brave, and it really helps her connect with the audience. Even when she does wrong, the viewers still have empathy for Coraline. In the movie, we meet Coraline's neighbors who also live in the Pink Palace: Mr Bobinsky and his jumping mice, Wybie, Ms Spink, and Forcible. Each character is unique and interacts with Coralline in some way, whether it's teaching her a lesson or being there for her as a companion.

The creators gave the movie its own feeling of mystery and imagination, making the scenes come to life. With the movie having the music and lighting that it does, it gives it a very unique taste and helps it build up suspense. Overall, the movie does extremely well with keeping the audience interested and on the edge of their seats. I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone who hasn’t seen it. I’d give this movie a 9/10.

2025 Spirit Bowl Battle

By Thomas Young

“They never stood a chance,”... (read more)

“They never stood a chance,” said Porter Jones, a junior, speaking about the tug-of-war matchup between the sophomores and juniors during the 2025 Spirit Bowl at West Jordan High School. His words summed up the intense competition felt between sophomores, juniors, seniors, and teachers during the battle for school spirit and supremacy over homecoming week.

The Spirit Bowl, which included competition ranging from musical chairs and three-legged races to a brand new final event which involved students and teachers dueling with pool noodles, ended with the seniors claiming victory. Their win was solidified by their dominance during the cheer battle, in which they conquered the sophomores and juniors to claim the best school spirit. The juniors followed in second place, while the teachers and sophomores came in third and fourth.

During each competition, every grade applauded their contestants’ efforts with a round of applause. Each student’s passion was felt on the field in the deafening roar of voices as the grades rallied their contestants on. Those cheers became even louder when the homecoming royalty candidates arrived to compete amongst each other and gain the attention of students.

All in all, the 2025 Spirit Bowl was a great event to kickstart the later festivities of homecoming week. It brought some great school spirit and excitement to the student body, who looked forward to the later events with renewed anticipation and enthusiasm.
