5th Grade
Star Reach

1st 9 Weeks: Students in 5th grade Star Reach will take part an archaeology simulation. They will learn the definition of archaeology and the different types of anthropology. Next, they will learn the tools of archaeology and the steps in an archaeological dig. The students will then take part in "real" life scenario/archaeological find by completing hands-on activities such as locating the site, gridding the area, and then excavating the dig site. Students will then learn the steps in preserving artifacts and participate in "mending" pottery found at their site. Lastly, as archaeologists they will study all the artifacts and give their opinion on what type of people could have left the artifacts behind.
