Pre-College Expo

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Annual Pre-College Expo will be held on July 10th, 2025 on UNC-Chapel Hill’s campus. This Event is hosted by the Carolina Higher Education Opportunity Programs (CHEOP) Office. The Pre-College Expo will provide students from any high school age Pre-College Access Program an opportunity to collaboratively learn about key topics for college-bound students. Students will participate in Workshops, Panel Discussions, Poster Presentations, a College Fair, and more!

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

2025 Summit STEM Fellowship

The Summit STEM Fellowship (SSF) is a summer fellowship for ambitious students entering 9th through 12th grade in Fall 2025. The fellowship selects for self-motivated students who are passionate about both STEM and making a meaningful impact in the world. Through Summit STEM, students receive mentorship from accomplished young professionals who share actionable guidance to help shape their high school journeys.

The fellowship is a 3-week flexible commitment, and students may attend alongside other summer programs. All fellowship events take place during the evenings or on weekends, and students are expected to commit 10-15 hours to the program each week.

In Summer 2025, the Summit STEM Fellowship will host two cohorts of students during the following sessions:

Session I: June 23 - July 11, 2025

Session II: July 14 - August 1, 2025

Fellowship Overview

During the Summit STEM Fellowship, students participate in live programming and events and have access to an extensive range of resources. The core program consists of the following series: Fireside Chats, STEM Shorts, Skill Builders, and Career Panels. Each series introduces students to various academic disciplines, teaches essential life skills, and provides tools for success in high school and beyond. Programming is designed to be as actionable as possible to help students directly apply the lessons they learn to their high school careers.

Leaders of the North Carolina General Assembly invite North Carolina high school students to apply for the annual Youth Legislative Assembly (YLA) slated for March 7-9, 2025, in Raleigh. For information and to submit your application go to - https://www.ncleg.gov/YLA

NC Youth Legislative Assembly

Applications are open for the 2024-2025 Youth Legislative Assembly, scheduled for March 7-9, 2025, in Raleigh. YLA is a mock legislative session where high school students voice their opinions and vote on issues concerning local, state and national government.

YLA teaches high school students about the laws governing North Carolina as well as the lawmaking process. Students draft, debate and vote on mock legislative bills while developing skills in research, interviewing, group facilitation and policy writing. As the bills are debated, the students get a chance to practice communicating their ideas, opinions and experiences in a team-building environment.

Any high school student in good standing at a public, private, charter or home school in North Carolina is eligible to participate. The application deadline is Thursday, Jan. 16, 2025.

UNC Catalyst Conference 2025 Application

The UNC Catalyst Conference is powered by college students to empower high school students, Catalyst Conference connects North Carolina’s next generation of catalysts for positive change for a weekend at UNC Chapel Hill to develop leadership skills and awareness on issues impacting our society today. The registration fee for Catalyst 2025 will be $100, but full and partial scholarships are readily available upon request.

This application asks the following:

What are the issues that you observe within your community? How have they been addressed? How do you think they should be addressed further? (100-200 words)
If you had to make a collage of the most important aspects of your identity, what would be on it? (250-350 words)

The application deadline is Friday, December 20, 2024 at 11:59pm.
