Introducing NCICU Direct Admission
Introducing NCICU Direct Admission for 26 Colleges and Universities
Twenty-six North Carolina private colleges and universities are offering eligible students more immediate acceptance to their campuses for the 2025-2026 academic year. North Carolina Independent Colleges & Universities (NCICU) recently announced the Direct Admission Program to provide a seamless and swift application process. North Carolina seniors with a weighted GPA of 2.8 or higher can answer a few straightforward questions, and then receive information directly from the colleges and universities of their choice, including details about conditional acceptance, specific campus requirements, and available financial aid options.
A Note from NCDPI: We understand that many districts and schools in the state are facing unimaginable challenges at this time. Our agency remains in touch with local district and school leaders and is committed to supporting students, staff and others through this. We also know that many are anticipating this email and seeking more information on this quickly unfolding initiative. We want to make sure we are good stewards of publicly accessible information by sharing it as it is available.
Seniors across North Carolina are one step closer to college with the launch of NC College Connect's student portal. Current seniors with a weighted GPA of 2.8 or higher at the close of their junior year are eligible to participate in this simplified college application process for select universities and NC community colleges.
NC College Connect is led by the UNC System, in partnership with the NC Department of Public Instruction, the North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority, GEAR UP North Carolina, the NC Community College System and the Office of the Governor. Full eligibilty requirements and a list of participating institutions are available at NCCollegeConnect.org.
Three Simple Steps for Students
Get Notified
Eligible students will receive a letter in the mail in mid-October. They should scan the QR code on their letter to visit NCCollegeConnect.org, where they can access the application portal.
On NCCollegeConnect.org, qualifying students will be directed to log into the NC College Connect portal using their existing CFNC.org account information, or they will be prompted to create a new CFNC account.
Claim Your Spot
After logging in, students will see a complete list of participating institutions where they can claim their spot by completing a simplified application for each college or university.
Student Notification Process
In addition to receiving a mailed letter, there are several ways students can check their eligibility.
Students can log on to their account at CFNC.org at any time to check their eligibility.
Lead school counselors and/or data managers received a list of eligible students from NCDPI last week. School personnel are encouraged to reach out to any student on the list who is a McKinney-Vento student or otherwise known to not have access to the mailing address on file at the end of the 2023-24 school year.
Eligible students will be sent a reminder postcard in the mail in November.
