Have you ever held a leadership role in your team? If so, how has it impacted your experience as a player?
When we played Country Day, we were losing and the energy was down on the court. No one was stepping up to create the energy so whenever it was time for me to come into the game, I started create energy on the court which then led to others start to have energy. Once we started to all have energy, we started winning and the game became more fun. This impacted my experience as a player because it shows that just one person coming into the game can change the way everyone acts and have a big impact on the game.
How important is communication during matches, and how does your team ensure effective communication on the court?
Communication is very important while playing because it motivates people to do better, creates trust, and helps people understand your emotions on the court so they can help you.
What is the team culture like?
I would like to think that our team culture is an embodiment of family. When you are able to be vulnerable, it allows others to be vulnerable as well. In that type of space, trust and solid communication happen. We strive to put others before self and this makes the volleyball side of it easy!
What are your team goals?
My goal for any group of girls that I coach is to help them become the best version of themselves. Volleyball will one day end, but being able to take everything that you learn on the court and apply it to every day life is something spectacular to see.
What’s the most rewarding part of being on a volleyball team for you?
Forming relationships with people, I wouldn’t normally talk to. Knowing and understanding other people's perspective on not just volleyball, but life is a really exciting part.
How does your coach foster a positive and effective team environment?
My Coach encourages us to speak to each other in a positive tone. She makes sure we try to uplift each other rather than tear eachother down.
The Patriots kicked off their season with an impressive win against McGhee on September 4th, securing victory in four sets. However, the competition intensified as they faced Hahnville, where they battled hard but ultimately fell in a close five-set match. A significant turning point came when the Lady Patriots faced Northlake, a team that had previously defeated them in the State Tournament last November. With determination and energy, the Patriots emerged victorious, marking an important redemption after last season's loss. They claimed another win against ED White in four sets, supported by an enthusiastic Lower School student section that cheered them on. Most recently, the team secured the District Champion title in the district tournament. The team's resilience and growth are clear as they navigate through the season!
