Mrs. Vickie Elliott, the worship team sponsor
Four years ago, Mrs. Elliott joined our John Curtis family. At her old school, she led a worship group and loved every minute of it. Besides being an amazing singer, Mrs. Elliott also has great artistic abilities. So, she applied for the job as the new art teacher. Oddly enough, we were also in need of a worship team leader, and Mrs. Elliott was more than happy to fill that role.
Joining the team is as easy as joining any sports team. Tryouts will be held before Christmas break for the start of the second half of the year.
The worship team isn't just a group of students who play instruments and sing together. It's more than that. Mrs. Elliott describes it as a family. She loves those kids as if they were her own. Her favorite part about leading the group is when they've been rehearsing and they finally get it. They finally start to realize their talents and sing as one. That is when she realizes that all the hard work she puts in is worth it.
Arely Gonzalez, junior vocalist
The John Curtis Worship Team consists of 15 students, each with their own unique musical talents.
Arely Gonzalez is a junior, and this is her first year on the worship team. She started to get curious about what the worship group was all about and how it could help her get more involved in the school. Mrs. Elliott made Arely feel so welcomed, so she knew that the worship team was the place for her. Believe it or not, Arely's favorite part of the worship team is practice. No one loves to practice, but Arely says it's more than just a practice. She describes practices as a time that they bond by taking moments just to talk instead of singing the entire time. Another one of her favorite things about the worship team is the leader, Mrs. Elliott. She defines Mrs. Elliott as a great leader who she looks to for help with her spiritual life. Arely hopes to sing at an assisted living home this year and is excited to see what is in store for the future with the worship team.
Madison Decker, a senior, has been a singer on the worship team for two years. She loves to sing and worship. Being on the team is very important to Madison because she enjoys leading students in praise and worship during chapel.
