Section 1116 of ESEA requires that schools "convene an annual meeting, at a convenient time, to which all parents of participating children shall be invited and encouraged to attend, to inform parents of their school’s participation under this part and to explain the requirements of this part, and the right of the parents to be involved."
Before or after parent conferences is a good time to conduct the annual title I meeting. The meeting must be separate from any other meeting and must have a separate agenda and sign-in sheet. A sample agenda is linked. Ensure that you keep record of the agenda, minutes, and a sign-in sheet. The sign-in sheet needs to indicate each participant’s position (teacher, principal, parent, student, etc.)
Include in the agenda:
1. The right of parents to be involved in planning, review and improvement of parent programs
2. Description and explanation of the curriculum used in the school
3. Types of assessment and proficiency levels used
Email copies of the agenda and sign-in sheet to the Director of Federal Programs by October 20. Keep the original agenda and sign in sheet at your campus.
