The following table lists the school's eResources and notes whether various devices are compatible and are able to access the resource.
You're going to love using your devices as part of your studies at John Monash Science School.
You will be able to view educational videos, look-up your timetable and set reminders for when assignments are due.
We expect you to take it on excursions, incursions and especially to class. Your devices can function as your planner, sketchbook, textbook, guitar, video camera and editing suite.
In addition to the Booklisted Textbooks, you may also be required to access a range of electronic resources and/or subscriptions for study.
These could take the form of subscription services, apps and/or eBooks.
This page provides a brief explanation of what they are and how they are to be used.
Students will be provided with a link to the Monash University Bookshop Booklist for John Monash Science School during Course Confirmation. Please see the JMSS Booklist tab for more details.
As John Monash Science School students will be undertaking research projects we would highly recommend becoming a member of the State Library of Victoria (SLV). It is free to sign up as a member of SLV and this can be done online here: SLV Membership. Membership will allow students to access high quality databases for research projects which includes peer reviewed scholarly journals.
Students have access to Britannica School, an online multimedia resource which is an ideal initial discovery step in research. Britannica School has an Australian-focus which makes the content particularly relevant for student research. Britannica is web-based and compatible on all BYOD devices, students will have access through the student portal.
As a John Monash Science School student you will utilise a blend of technologies and a variety of learning styles to accomplish your work. Consequently, we choose not to provide a definitive list of Apps. We do expect that you will download Apps on a just-in-time basis at school if required for class. To facilitate this process, we recommend that your online App store accounts have a positive balance.
The library has a collection of eBooks which students can access via the Sora Overdrive app (for easy access from personal devices) or linking from the student portal. Overdrive has a great collection of eBooks as well as eAudiobooks and titles which will encourage personal reading and support studies.
ProQuest eBook Central and EBSCO eBooks are great eResource which supports academic studies and may provide further reading to complement studies on many non-fiction topics.
Certain eBook readers allow you to collect purchased books and uploaded PDFs in one application. You should endeavour to organise your e-texts so that you can quickly access them when studying.
As part of the Booklist, you will also be required to purchase some textbooks that provide an electronic version.
In order to facilitate the transfer of materials from the laptop to your devices, you are recommended to activate and load the Google Drive App on your devices.
Furthermore, some items listed on the Hardcopy Booklist will be available primarily online. The network at John Monash Science School supports this mode of access.
Lote subjects French and Japanese may require a subscription to Education Perfect.
Some subjects in VCE 1&2 and 3&4 may also require a specific subscription to corresponding Edrolo course units.
Please see the JMSS Booklist tab for more information and you will receive detailed instructions via email and regarding setting up access to eResources.
