The annual house music competition is open to all students of all abilities and takes place on the Thursday and Friday in the first week of March. This year this is the 5th and 6th of March, taking place in the main school hall. Students are invited to compete either as a soloist, as part of a group (ensemble), or one of each.
All instrumentalists are able to enter, and scores are given based on the quality of performance, as well as taking into account the technicality of the music attempted. Regularly over 100 students enter the competition, and just by entering they are awarded house points for showing courage in performing for the judges. The judging panel is regularly the music department, but there is often input from other staff, or visiting guest musicians, who have added their opinions.
The categories are judged by instrumental families - woodwind, brass, string and percussion, as well as pianists, and vocalists in their own category. There are also overall winners for each year group, and key stage. These all gain extra house points for their team, and winners may be asked to perform in the Spring concert, which this year takes place on the 26th of March.
The deadline for entering is Tuesday 3rd of March. Please follow the link to complete the online application.
Please note**: You will only be able to access the entry form using your @jhgs.bucks.sch.uk email address
