Note: Unless you were already in contact with JVP Staff to finish the chapter charter, we are currently having new and re-emering groups sign as Pods.
Pods are a new type of formations that take action in their local city:
Towards a specific campaign - e.g. participating in the new We Don’t Buy It campaign that targets settler funders
Legislatively as part of JVP Action - e.g. building relationships with local legislators and participating in the national legislative organizing structure (NLOC)
For places who have been chapters but best fit into a pod in the new model (which are many), pods can also be a sustained/continued local presence that is responsive to the needs for a Jewish pro-Palestine presence, i.e. in coalitions, local media, actions, and rapid response. They can also still operate as JVP-[city name]; the pod/chapter distinction is most relevant internally to the organization.
Pods are not intended or expected to build out full local infrastructure, nor organize at the scale or depth, in the ways that chapters are. They are intended to be nimble, to create many ways for people to take effective and strategic action as part of JVP/JVPA, and to systematize and improve some of how local organizing already happens. They receive support primarily from the structure & staff of specific areas of work they are engaging in -- whether legislative, campaign, media, etc. It’s also something new that we are trying out after a lot of thought, intention, and discussion, and will evaluate in what ways works or not.
To learn more specifics about becoming a pod, please read the charter below. For more context on how we arrived at these categories, check out this link.
If you are interested in moving forward as a Pod, please fill out the charter and follow the instructions within.
