Note: Unless you were already in contact with JVP Staff to finish the chapter charter, we are currently having new and re-emering groups sign as Pods.
Nope! It's 100% optional. Do what makes sense for you and your chapter.

Why does each leader need to submit their contact info?
Are you tired of being the only person hit up by National for asks? Does national keep sending emails for chapter asks to the wrong address? It's been over 3 years since JVP National has staffed up it's Chapter Organizing Department and a lot has changed, including who is in leadership in several chapters. Top leaders have given us feedback that the same people are always hit up and newer leaders need ways to be plugged in. This form is us trying to remove a bottleneck to that!
We're hoping this form can help us better manage leader contact info and help you avoid submitting more forms later.
We recommend asking your leadership directly and keeping track in a doc like this one we've already suggested. If you really can't remember, just have them submit it again.
JVP National Staff are experimenting with new forms of communication to better meet our base's intergenerational organizing needs, including a one way Signal chat for key announcements for Chapter Leaders under this new model and a Discussion Signal Chat for leaders to talk with each other. Signal is an end-to-end encrypted app that you put on your phone and your computer. We chose it for that reason and because many other groups across the country have been using it to organize with success.
These chats will supplement and eventually replace the current chapter leaders email list serve, which may or may not turn into a way-one list serve for all leaders doing local organizing (Chapters, Pods, Student Chapters, etc.)
If you have questions or concerns about this change, please discuss them with your chapter organizer. If you select "yes," tutorials on how to use signal and more guidance will come in the future.
Joining the Signal group is optional, but we really recommend joining! In the coming weeks, we will be offering support on how to join and use Signal so that it's not too overwhelming. The nice thing about Signal is that there are options to mute the notifications for specific chats, so even if you just wanna join to get the occasional updates, we're recommending you do so! You can always wait and join later if you change your mind by updating this same form.
If you have specific reservations or concerns about joining Signal, please discuss with your chapter's leadership and reach out your chapter organizer.
We have plans to make a more detailed member portal in the Fall. For now, we wanted to provide chapters with an ever-green resource for updating their contact info in the event that something changes or if you bring in a new leader after signing your charter.

If your Chapter Organizer co-facilitated your charter meeting, you are not required to schedule a follow-up meeting, but you are welcome to-- to keep building a relationship, setting goals, and getting support!
The decision of whether current chapters remain as chapters or convert into pods is informed both by the self-assessment of the chapter's leadership and the assessment of JVP National staff organizers. The decision will be made based on the clarified definition and requirements of chapters outlined in the updated chapter charter.
This means that there may be cases where there is disagreement over whether a chapter is currently fulfilling or can fulfill the new charter, including the mutual responsibilities, leadership requirements, and infrastructure agreements. If disagreement arises, National staff will exercise careful discernment and deep listening to the opinions of chapter leadership. Simultaneously, National staff will also be honest and direct if we believe that a formation does not yet have the leadership and structures needed to remain a chapter, and we will share what changes would be needed to make that possible. We will be transparent and specific about our reasoning. If conversations with Michael and Shelby don't yield consensus on how to proceed, Jemma will follow-up upon her return from sabbatical to decide how to move forward.
