Confidant Theme

A Persona 5 Android theme (live wallpaper) powered by KLWP.

These GIF previews below are supposed to be smoother than you see them right now. See here and here.

You'll need the following...

  • An Android device running Kit Kat (4.4) or higher. It should have...
    • A 16:9 aspect ratio display -- very common for phones.
      • Phones with taller screens like the Galaxy S8 will need adjustments to get it to work. Sorry, but I can't support this without owning a phone like it (I'm sure others have tried and fixed it though, you'll want to google a version of this theme for your device)
    • A high resolution display -- these images are very large and KLWP might crash if your phone's screen resolution is too low. Phones with 1080p displays should be fine. 720p might work, but you're really pushing it...
    • Phones with as little as 512MB memory could run KLWP, but I highly suggest doubling that.
    • Support for Live wallpapers.
  • KLWP Pro - Make sure it's the latest version (v3.24b+) or it won't load.
  • Nova Launcher, or any other launcher that supports...
    • Wallpaper scrolling
    • Icon packs (optional)
    • Blank screens (optional)
  • Your launcher should have three screens.
    • The animations will fail if it's less, and it'll behave oddly with more.
    • You'll have to adjust my preset yourself if you want more screens.
  • The theme is designed for portrait use. Sorry, tablet users, this was designed with a phone in mind, and landscape orientation just... looks bad with this.
    • You can force Nova Launcher to always lock to portrait, regardless of Screen rotation settings.

Make sure your phone meets the requirements.

  • Any phone that's the latest flagship phone, or is one or two generations behind the latest should work fine.
  • Some manufacturers disable live wallpapers. Try getting free ones from the play store and see if those work.
  • Some devices don't scroll wallpapers as you pan through them. Try out Nova Launcher, then try a large wallpaper and see if it scrolls along. If that fails, try setting Nova's wallpaper scrolling to Forced.

Do I have to pay for Pro?

Yes*. You'll have to pay for Pro in order to import presets. I think it's worth it in the long run if you'll get other Android themes in the future though, KLWP is highly used.

*...okay, there's a free way but it's a hassle! You could build it by hand, since I've left the resources available for download and for free. Follow the instructions on the DIY section and have a working setup for your own. Do take note that:

  • You have to follow the Advanced Instructions below, since we're not just importing it easily.
  • You cannot freely switch between presets and have to discard your work.
  • I cannot support you for any questions. Since I'm in Pro, I wouldn't be able to tell what you have and what I don't have. Sorry!

Check the updated instructions in the DIY section.

Instructions

Setting up KLWP Live Wallpaper

  • Download the preset file if you haven't yet.
  • Run KLWP first. Accept all permissions as needed.
  • Open the side menu, select Load Preset, Import (Folder Icon) then choose the klwp file you just downloaded.
  • Press the Save button (diskette icon) to apply the preset.

KLWP should now load a nice theme preview on your phone.

You can freely scroll through it and you should have three screens just like in the animations at the top of this page.

If it isn't three pages, tap the Screen Count icon on the upper-right and change that to 3 for X and 1 for Y.

Icons

  • Install the Flight Icon Pack (or whatever you want, really). Another good alternative is Whicons
  • Install your launcher of choice (I use Nova Launcher)
  • Set the icon pack to Flight (Nova Settings -> Look & Feel -> Icon Theme -> Flight)
  • Set your desktop grid to 12x12 (or whichever is highest) and enable Subgrid Positioning
  • Place your own icons wherever you wish.

If you have problems, check out the Issues? Questions? section below.

Advanced Instructions

The instructions below are for those who want to use the Advanced Versions of the theme.

It's meant for those who want to change confidants quickly through a global variable and those who can get around with KLWP.

Additionally, you'll need these.

The Advanced Version downloads requires the use of an external folder. I've called it p5-confidant and you need to place it on your Kustom directory.

In addition to the list above, you'll need...

  • A file manager like Amaze so you can move the p5-confidant folder in the right place.
  • The p5-confidant folder in the version you're downloading. If it's zipped, you'll need to extract it.

Setting up the external folder -- p5-confidant

  • Download the p5-confidant folder
  • Place p5-confidant at your Kustom directory. [/storage/emulated/0/Kustom/]
    • Using your phone's file explorer, it should look like the screenshot on the right.
    • You can also choose to place it wherever you want, but you'll need to change c_dir in KLWP Globals accordingly.

To choose the confidant you want, proceed to the Globals section and scroll through the cchoice global variable.

    • their images should show up just like in the GIF animation at the top of this web page.
    • If it doesn't, KLWP can't find the p5-confidant folder. Either place it in the right directory, or change the c_dir variable to where you placed it
  • Hit the Save button (diskette icon) to apply the new preset.
  • Set KLWP as your homescreen's live wallpaper. Open the side menu, Settings -> Set as Wallpaper

Everything should work at this point!

Other Components

If you've been looking for other components that's not in the GIF animations above (calendars, icon packs, date/time controls), you'll want to ask around where you found it.

I'm only covering the base theme itself (the screens), the music info and the location bar.

The basic idea is simple though:

  • Find the preset that has the controls you want
  • Check the boxes of the controls, then copy
  • Load my preset
  • Paste
  • Adjust the controls as you want. (gotta learn KLWP if you want certain behavior, like placing them in specific screens or animations)

Credits

  • Live wallpaper concept and execution, music player and location bar by me, jerieljan. I posted it initially at Reddit.
  • High-resolution redraws from the game's interface done by u/BHDown
  • The calendar, task list and other components are from u/Alamerona.
  • The video that made it all popular by mixing all three together -- along with a customization tutorial by ShrineFox.

Donations?

You could send them via PayPal if you really want to. It's really okay not to though, I'm just glad there's another happy Persona fan out there. Enjoy! :)
