an accelerated curriculum

Our Math, Science, Technology (MST) and Advance Program students receive an accelerated curriculum devoted to early preparation for MST and Advance Program high schools and college. Students are surrounded by students who are committed to excellence.

In order for students to participate in the MST Program, they must apply online and be accepted. All students who are accepted into the program are provided bus transportation by the Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS). MST and Advance Program students who successfully complete these programs open doors of opportunity for high school and college.

Mathematics

Newburg’s mathematics teachers use the Illustrative Math program. Math concepts are enhanced through investigations, applications, and hands-on activities that simulate real-world situations. Newburg offers an Accelerated Mathematics course two years above grade level. MST and Advance Program students often choose to be a part of the MATHCOUNTS competition to increase their knowledge.

Science

The $25 million GE grant brings an exciting hands-on curriculum to science. Science is taught through self-designed experimentation, inquiry, and research projects. Our School at the Louisville Zoo Program is a long-standing partnership with the Louisville Zoo that provides our students with a hands-on study of natural history, conservation issues, and interrelationships with living things. Newburg also provides students with a wetland area and an outdoor classroom. Our Engineering/Robotics Program, in partnership with the University of Louisville Speed School of Engineering, offers exciting critical thinking and real-world application of content.

Technology

Newburg Middle School is a part of the Digital Promise program as a Verizon Innovative Learning School (VILS) which means every student has an iPad with data and can access our VILS Lab. Our classrooms have integrated sound systems with voice amplification and smart TVs or SMART interactive panels. Components of technology are woven into all areas of the curriculum. We are dedicated to ensuring access and the pursuit of proficiency for every student.
