Why does JCPS use MFA?
A password alone is easy to steal. MFA adds a second check with your phone, which protects your account and student information.
What methods can I use?
Text message (on by default), the Rapid Identity app (tap Approve), or an authenticator app (Google or Microsoft) that shows a 6-digit code. Setup steps for each are on the MFA Setup page.
How often will I have to verify?
Usually about once a day. You may be asked again when you change devices or networks, such as leaving school and signing in at home. This applies to Google, Infinite Campus, and other JCPS apps.
I don't have a mobile phone, or don't want to use my personal one.
Desk phones and shared office lines can no longer be used for MFA. Call the IT Support Center at 502-485-3552 to talk through your options.
I got a new phone. What do I do?
If you can't sign in, call the IT Support Center at 502-485-3552. If you have the same number but just a new device, you should be able to sign in using SMS. Then you'll have to setup any MFA apps again.
I left my phone at home.
Call the IT Support Center at 502-485-3552. We can give you a one-time temporary passcode that works for a limited time.
I lost my phone or changed my number.
Lost phone: call the IT Support Center at 502-485-3552 right away so we can remove it from your account. New number: sign in at jcps.me/ri , select your name, then Profile Settings and Edit Profile, update your mobile number, and select Save.
I don't have a cell signal.
Use an authenticator app (Google or Microsoft Authenticator). Its 6-digit codes work without cell signal or Wi-Fi.
Should I set up a backup method?
Yes. Add a second method so you can still sign in if one isn't available. On the sign-in screen, select Try another method to switch.
How do I add or change an MFA method?
Sign in at jcps.me/ri , select your name, then Profile Settings and Edit Profile. Update your number or MFA options and select Save. Step-by-step instructions are on the MFA Setup page.
I got an approval request or code I didn't ask for.
Don't approve it. Tap Deny, change your password, and call the IT Support Center at 502-485-3552. Someone may have your password.
