My name is Michelle Bortz and I am the ECSE at Weber, Ryan, and Betty Adams preschool this school year! This is my second year at Jeffco where I feel very lucky to spend my 12th year in education and 10th year as an ECSE. I was born on the east coast, grew up on the west coast, and moved to Wyoming in 2010 where I graduated with my undergraduate and master's degree. Fort Collins was my home from 2017-2022, then my fiancé and I moved to Arizona. We moved back to CO in 2025 and most recently bought a house and are so happy to be growing roots in the community! We plan to get married in June 2027! We have two dogs (Yeti and Hazy), and I enjoy baking gluten-free goodies, reading, golfing, and traveling.

As the role of your school's ECSE, I am here to support your child in the classroom, provide pre-academic and social-emotional support, as well as learn through play to find their strengths and unique abilities! I’m also here to support your family as our goal is to learn and grow together this school year.

Hi families!  I’m looking forward to a wonderful year of learning and growing at Ryan Elementary School.  This is my fourth year at Ryan, and my seventh year working for Jeffco.  Previously, I worked as an SLP in Arizona for an additional 6 years.  I’m passionate about helping students develop their speech and language abilities.  In my spare time, I enjoy hiking, camping, watching football and spending time with my family.  You can also always find me with my three sons, Caiden (6), Colter (3), and Jack (1).  Let’s make it a great year!

Carolyn Hartwell

Preschool Para Support

Hi my name is Carolyn Hartwell and I’m excited to be returning for my second year as a paraprofessional in the PreK classroom! I also have two children at the school, currently in second and fifth grade, so this school is a very special place for our family. 

I’m a Colorado native and grew up right here in Broomfield. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy reading, doing puzzles, spending time with my husband and kiddos, and cheering on my favorite Colorado sports teams. I feel very fortunate to be part of such a wonderful school community and love being a part of our preschool team!
