Creative Curriculum for Preschool supports the whole child, nurturing their social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development. By providing rich, play-based experiences and hands-on investigations, we ignite children's imaginations while empowering them to become confident, creative, and compassionate learners. Our research-based approach seamlessly integrates language, literacy, and math into daily activities.
We explore 9 units of study throughout the school year:
The First 6 Weeks (Getting to know our classroom, rules, and school)
Trees
Balls
Clothes
Buildings
Wheels
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Water
Exercise
We immerse ourselves in a world of stories by reading and listening to books throughout the day. Interactive read-alouds are a cornerstone of our classroom, laying the foundation for early literacy.
To build strong pre-reading skills, we use the Heggerty Phonemic Awareness Curriculum. Heggerty is a fast-paced, multi-sensory program designed to develop crucial listening and oral language skills. Through quick, interactive daily lessons, children practice:
Rhyming: Identifying and generating rhyming words.
Onset Fluency: Isolating the initial sounds in words.
Blending & Segmenting: Combining individual sounds to form words and breaking words down into individual sounds.
Manipulating Sounds: Adding, deleting, or substituting sounds to make new words.
Together with daily writing practice, these Heggerty exercises provide children with the foundational auditory skills they need to become successful readers.
We believe that math is both fun and practical! Through hands-on activities like sorting, counting, pattern-making, and building, we make math learning engaging, interactive, and meaningful for our little learners.
Fine motor development is essential for everyday independence and future academic success. We incorporate a variety of hands-on activities into our daily routine—such as cutting with scissors, pencil grip practice, playdough manipulation, and using small objects—to build hand strength and dexterity.
Using the Second Step Curriculum, we equip students with the social-emotional tools they need to thrive. Through interactive, age-appropriate lessons, games, and role-playing, children learn how to build positive relationships, identify and manage their emotions, show empathy, and solve problems collaboratively.
Our comprehensive assessment process uses Teaching Strategies GOLD (TS GOLD) for formal benchmarking three times annually. This is complemented by ongoing informal observations across multiple developmental domains—including social-emotional, physical, language, cognitive, literacy, mathematics, and science & technology skills—as well as formal flex day assessments conducted three times a year.
