You may or you may have not heard about the mice roaming throughout our school. The mice have been a problem within the building for a while now. Making a problem for many teachers across the building, like counselor Ms. Baker who states, “I've had a fear of mice for a while now, just hearing about them makes me flinch.”
This gross problem, as stated, “has been occurring since we opened the school,” says Ms. Baker.
We then interviewed Mr. Orthun, an eighth grade Language Arts Teacher and a sixth grade Media literacy teacher who gave us a more insightful point of view on the subject. “The mice have historically been in the A hall.” We then asked ourselves, why? Why were they showing up mostly in the A hall?
We traveled to the A hall and decided to interview Ms. Waterhouse, who we had heard spotted a mouse.
Mrs. Waterhouse said,”We are next to a big field.” This helps us understand that being next to a big field attracts mice. After interviewing Mrs. Waterhouse we decided to go and interview Mr. Rudat the 6th grade science teacher located in G hall, “Being that the weather is cooling off, mice are probably looking for a warmer place to be.” Habitat is one of the main factors of the mice, weather as also stated.
To confirm this we searched if this was true and sure enough a corbating site states Abc Blog it states, “Mice come into our homes seeking food, water and shelter. Their natural habitat is outdoors, but sometimes it gets too cold or too hot outside. During periods of drought or extreme heat, mice can have a hard time finding food or water.” (Abc Blog 2)
Food? Ms. Baker gave us insider information about the topic showing us where she saw mice poop all over her desk, she showed us why she puts the food and candy up high so that the mice can't reach it.
This was very insightful and helped us really understand why the mice have been appearing in classrooms, lockers and hallways.
Food as stated multiple times by multiple teachers, ways to help stop the mice problem is to continue to stop leaving litter and food scattered in classrooms and clean up your messes if you make them.
After learning further more about the "Dunstan Mice" we can all learn to clean up after ourselves and help clean up our school community.
