Learning Styles
Here are some study strategies for the different learners in our classroom...
Visual:
organize living and work space to avoid distractions
sit away from maps or boards that have a lot of information when you are trying to concentrate
use typed material
written repetition and flash cards help
use blank spaces on the page to reconstruct images in different ways
underlining, highlighting, symbols,graphs and pictures in notes
post its and to-do lists are good reminders
turn visual cues back into the information when preparing for an exam
develop a plan before writing
participate in the group
Auditory:
avoid areas with conversation, music, and TV when you need to focus
rehearse information orally
watch videos and lectures
use rhyme, jingles, and mnemonics
turn pictures into verbal descriptions
read directions out loud
read your notes out loud
Kinesthetic:
participate in discussion
use all of your senses whenever possible
hands on activities improve motivation, interest and memory
read directions
take breaks to get physical movement in while reading, writing, or studying
teach the material to someone else
practice writing the answers in paragraphs or essays
use labs or field trips and attend lectures
relate to "real life" whenever possible
