Lucy McCrossan is in her 1st year as the Instrumental Music Director at Columbine High School in Littleton. Ms. McCrossan recently graduated from Colorado State University with a bachelor's degree in music education and license to teach K-12 music in Colorado. She completed her student teaching at Fossil Ridge High School, where she took over the freshman concert band and worked as a Marching Band Technician for two years.
Ms. McCrossan's passion for music first started when she joined band in seventh grade. She primarily plays the flute, but also played alto saxophone in jazz band all throughout high school, played bass drum in winter drum line, taught 6th-8th grade orchestra students, and was involved in marching band for eight years. She spent the last two years serving as a Drum Major for the CSU Marching Band and teaching marching band is one of her biggest passions.
Ms. McCrossan believes that music education fosters expression, musicianship, community, and leadership. Her teaching philosophy is based on the idea that ensembles build both individual and group musicality, teaching students how to collaborate with those around them and step up to become a leader. She is passionate about helping students grow and hopes to foster a lifelong love for music.
Ms. McCrossan is grateful to be in a supportive community and is looking forward to what's next for the Columbine instrumental music program. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, coloring, spending time with friends, and watching CSU games!
