Any student attending Dakota Ridge High School and is enrolled in an engineering course is encouraged to join the robotics team. Starting in August 2026, every student in the PLTW Computer Integrated Manufacturing class will be required to be a member of the robotics team. This is a co-curricular activity organized by the DRHS Engineering Student Association to support the DRHS Engineering Program.

Dakota Ridge High School has had an active FIRST Robotics Team every year since 2006. The team was originally formed by technology teacher Bill Schmidt. After he retired in 2016 the new engineering teacher (Chris Gray) continued the team. For most of its history the team has been a small team (less than 20 students), but are growing the team to become more competitive in our region. FIRST Robotics is an excellent complement to our school's Engineering Program and we encourage all engineering students to join. We are always looking for corporate sponsors and mentors to guide and assist the students as they design, build, program, and test their robotic creations. Wired-Up! was thrilled with our success in 2023 and the students are working hard to make it back to the FRC World Championship.
By designing our robot to be an excellent complement to high scoring robots, the top ranked team chose us to join their alliance for the Finals of the 2023 Colorado Regional FIRST Robotics Competition. Scoring in autonomous and tele-operation modes and always balancing on the Charge(a tilting platform) at the end of each round our robot assisted our alliance to go undefeated and thus Winning the Colorado Regional. This gave our team its first chance to attend the FRC World Championship in Houston Texas in April 2023. This was an amazing experience and our returning team members look forward to doing it again. FIRST (For Inspiration & Recognition of Science & Technology) is a non-profit organization based in Manchester New Hampshire that organizes robotics competitions each year for school age children. Except for a few full time positions a the headquarters, the organization is totally run by volunteers who set-up and run events. The main goal of FIRST is to inspire young people to want to work towards a successful career in STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math). Making robots is just the means by which we are creating the next generation of engineers and technicians. Learn more about FIRST at their website. firstinspires.org
