FIRST Robotics is different from other robotics competitions in many way. One of the biggest ways is the scale of the robots and teams. FRC robots can cost thousands of dollars each and registering for a competition costs at least $5000. This can be a barrier for some schools/students to get involved, but it is an excellent opportunity for local and national business to get involved and help develop the next generation of engineers and technicians. Sponsorship, like mentoring, creates a connection between current professionals and aspiring teens. Volunteering time can be challenging, but a donation can be planned and worked into a company's budget (charity, advertising, recruiting, etc.).
