Our new Epson Brightlink 725wi Projectors allow us to ditch our various VGA, HDMI, cords, adapters, etc. (woo hoo!) and wirelessly connect your pc, phone, chromebook, or tablet to our white boards which are transformed into an interactive display.
You can use this projector/white board in two ways:
As a stand-alone, digital whiteboard
Project your screen onto the board and control it from the board itself using your pens as a mouse. (Note: we do not have touch capability with our projectors). Annotate any webpage or document on display and even save your notes or annotations.
Where do I begin?
The capability to project has been built into all Window machines, so your school laptop doesn't need any additional software installed to use the projector.
Turn on your projector using your remote control
To connect your device, either plug in both the HDMI and USB cables, or connect wirelessly (instructions follow).
How to connect your device wirelessly:
Go to the settings on your device, or simply use the magnifying glass icon in the lower right to search for "connect to a wireless display"
Choose the first one on the list. It should say EB8.. and then another number that will vary per room. However, the one closest to you will always be the first one on the list.
This is important: Make sure to check the box that says "Allow mouse, touch, pen and keyboard input from this device." If it isn't checked, interactivity will not work.
You should be connected!
Calibrate your pens
On your remote, press Menu.
Choose "Pen/Touch" on the left side.
Select manual calibration, and follow the instructions to calibrate your pens.
Here is a video by Genevieve Bassett explaining how to autocalibrate your pens
Interactive Modes
Your projector can be used in three different modes: Whiteboard, Annotation, and Interactive
Whiteboard Mode:
Our projectors can be used without a computer attached as a digital whiteboard. To use the whiteboard, simply do the following:
Turn on the projector, then either on your remote or on the screen itself, select the Home button, and then "Whiteboard".
Notice the toolbar at the bottom of the screen that allows you to change pen color, type and erase. For a detailed list of toolbar features, including how to save, please view this page.
Math teacher in particular take note: you can use a graph-paper grid or other backgrounds as a template on your board:
Here is a video from Julia Johns on how to erase on your whiteboard.
Annotation Mode:
You can project from a computer, tablet, video device, or other source and annotate over your projected content using the interactive pens. You can use one pen,or both pens at the same time.
Project an image from a connected device. You see the toolbar on the bottom of the projected image.
You will see the toolbar at the bottom as you did in whiteboard mode. Those tools may now be used to annotate documents, webpages, or any content you display.
PC Interactive Mode:
You can navigate, select, and interact with your computer programs from the projected screen using the interactive pens or your finger just as you would a mouse. Connecting your computer wirelessly was described above.
Either connect wirelessly as described above, or plug in the USB and HDMI cables to your device.
From either your remote or the screen, choose PC connectivity
Make sure PC connectivity is on in the lower right corner of the screen
If you have a video connected, volume can be controlled through the remote control. If you have issues, please view this video from Genevieve to troubleshoot.
Using the Pens
To left-click, tap the board with the pen tip.
To double-click, tap twice.
To right-click, press the button on the side or press and hold the pen on the screen.
Note: To make a long press of the pen act as a right-click on a Mac or PC, set the Pen Tracking Mode setting to Mouse Mode and set the Press and Hold setting to Right Click.
To click and drag, tap and drag with the pen.
To move the cursor, hover over the board without touching it.
Note: You can turn off the hovering feature using the Pen Hovering setting in the projector's Pen/Touch menu.
Here is a video from Epson giving a quick tour of the capabilities. Disregard any information about software that needs to be installed. Everything we need is already integrated into our Windows devices. Also disregard information about touch screen. We do not have this capability, and the pens must be used instead.
