Genre: Mystery

Review by Linda

“The woeful saga of the Baudelaire orphans continues as evil Count Olaf discovers their whereabouts at Esme Gigi Geniveve Squalor's seventy-one bedroom penthouse and concocts a new plan for stealing their family fortune.”

“Dear Reader,

If you have just picked up this book, then it is not too late to put it back down. Like the previous books in A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS, there is nothing to be found in these pages but misery, despair, and discomfort, and you still have time to choose something else to read.

Within the chapters of this story, Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire, encounter a brightly colored staircase, a red herring, some friends in a dire situation, three mysterious initials, a liar with an evil scheme, a secret passageway, and parsley soda.

I have sworn to write down these tales of the Baudelaire orphans so the general public will know each terrible thing that has happened to them, but if you decide to read something else instead, you will save yourself from a heapful of horror and woe.

With all due respect, Lemony Snicket”

Plot: The Baudelaire orphans are brought to another guardian by Mr. Poe on 667 Dark Avenue where people get to choose what is “in” and what is “out” light is ”out” and elevators are “out” making the Baudelaire walk up several stairs to where the Squalors live. They are introduced to Jerome Squalor and he later introduces them to his wife, Esme Squalor, the city’s sixth most important financial advisor. Jerome avoids getting into disputes with her as he hates arguing and obeys what she says. Jerome, a good friend of the Baudelaires’ mother, cares for the children, Esme only adopted them because orphans are “in”.

Esme invites children to cafe salmonella for dinner so she can privately discuss arrangements for an auction with someone named Gunther.

After Esme gives the children oversized pinstripe suits, the baudelaires recognize Gunther as Count Olaf. Despite his attempt to disguise his unibrow with a monocle and horse riding boots to cover up his ankle tattoo. Despite them protesting that Gunther is Count Olaf, Jerome dismisses their suspicions of Gunther.

Klaus notices that there is an elevator door on every floor except for the top floor that has two elevators; the children discover that one of the elevators is called ersatz, fake and consists of nothing but one open empty shaft. The Baudelaires decide to climb down the shaft and find two quagmire triplets in a cage. The quagmires say that count Olaf is planning to smuggle them inside an item at the auction and that one of his associates is going to bid on it. The baudelaires go to the penthouse and find tools. They return to the shaft but Gunther already took the quagmires away.

Klaus finds a lot #50 V.F.D in the auction catalog and the baudelaires think that the quagmires will be hidden over there because the quagmires told the baudelaires that count Olaf was in an organization called V.F.D. It is later revealed that Esme knew who Gunther was and the baudelaires decide to show her the ersatz in which she pushes them in a net and leaves. It turns out that Esme was in on the plan to kidnap the quagmires, sunny climbs up the net, grabs the ersatz rope and jumps back down. Sunny bites into the net and using the rope they climb down from the net, traveling along the hallway at the bottom of the shaft they find out it leads to a dead end. They pound on the ceiling revealing it is a trapdoor and escape through it and they find themselves in their old home.

They rush to Veblen Hall, the location of the auction, and join the crowd there. The auction has already begun, and Gunther and Esmé are on the stage. The children ask if Jerome toucan buy them Lot #50. Mr. Poe and Jerome both bid but end up backing down, Sunny bids on it and ends up winning. The Baudelaires open the box , only to reveal Fancy Doilies instead of the Quagmires. Gunther slips on the doilies and reveals that he is Count Olaf when his boots and monocle fall off, revealing his unibrow and tattoo. Count Olaf and Esmé escape, pursued by the audience. The doorman is revealed as the Hook-Handed Man, and the Quagmires are instead hidden in the statue of a red herring. Even though Jerome wants to keep the Baudelaires, he affirms on taking them far away so Count Olaf will leave them alone. They refuse this because they want to rescue the Quagmires.

The story ends when Jerome is forced to give them up, because he is not brave enough to help them, Mr. Poe ends up calling a Vietnamese restaurant instead of the police, and the three children are sitting on the steps of Veblen Hall.

My Opinion of the book:

I thought that this book was really nice and very entertaining to read. I liked the details in the book and the illustrations.

The illustrations were very unique to me and had an art style that I’ve never seen before. I like how the book tries to persuade you not to read it because terrible things happen in this book. I find it to be very interesting and original. I also like how the book also has references to other things, such as Esme’s name being a reference to J. D. Salinger's story "For Esmé – with Love and Squalor". The final thing I have to say is that I also like how in the end of the books Lemony Snicket has a letter to his editor, in the book he tells his editor this:

To My Kind Editor,

I am sorry this paper is sopping wet, but I am writing this from the place where the Quagmire Triplets were hidden.

The next time you run out of milk, buy a new carton at Cash Register #19 of the Not-Very-Supermarket. When you arrive home, you will find my description of the Baudelaires' recent experience in this dreadful town, entitled THE VILE VILLAGE, has been tucked into your grocery sack, along with a burnt-out torch, the tip of a harpoon, and a chart of the migration paths of the V.F.D. crows. There is also a copy of the official portrait of the Council of Elders, to help Mr. Helquist with his illustrations.

Remember, you are my last hope that the tales of the Baudelaire orphans can finally be told to the general public.

With all due respect, Lemony Snicket.

Minecraft reviews opinions and facts

Minecraft is a game that was created on November 18, 2011 when minecraft first came out it was pretty boring. It was just a bunch of Npc’s with you running around. There was no point in the game. Currently Minecraft is a good game. Most people see that by killing the ender dragon you beat the game. You can do many things in Minecraft such as build houses, get the best equipment/ armor or weapons, own dogs, make a farm. There’s multiple things you can do in Minecraft. There are also mods in which some of the mods are turned into mini games in Minecraft such as bedwars the most popular one. There are moods to such as creative mode or survival mode.Creative mode you can get anything you want in the game and build.Survival mode you start with nothing you break trees make a house and survive the zombies and spider etc.

Game Review

Hello! Today I will be reviewing 2 video games, GTA 5 (Grand Theft Auto 5), and Fortnite. First of all we have GTA 5, this game is great if you like violence guns and robbing people for money, pretty violent but it’s fun. There are missions all around the map that give you certain tasks, some require it to be night, some require it to be day. They give you a small reward of 250,000- 1,000,000. With a small price of $30 this game isn’t bad.

The next game I will be reviewing is Fortnite, this game is tricky to learn if you haven’t practiced for a long time because there is building, there are many ways to play and learn strategies. There is many ways to get xp from the creative game modes, since they added a XP feature to creative game modes so you basically don’t have to play against other players to gain XP, this is a very effective way to get XP because there is various glitches that will give you 1,000,000 xp over time, this games price is free and is great if you like 3rd person shooters that you can build in.

Call of duty

From Landon

My game report will be on call of duty warzone. Call of duty is one of my favorite games to play. They recently came out with call of duty warzone 2. my first reason is I’m a violent guy. My second reason is I like to stay focused and not play boring games. With warzone you always got to pay attention. My third reason is that there are different modes that you can play. I have to go do work now. Bye bye.

Madden 23

The game Madden is about football where you can play online against other people around the world and ultimate team is where you make your dream team that you always wanted to see in action. My player is where you create your own character or a current player playing in the NFL. It’s fun to play with friends and everyone around the world. The yard is like a backyard mode where you play with almost fake rules and it’s like a Mini game.

I like playing the game because it’s fun and the game modes are interesting and they are great to have friends play with you or like me I like competing online and it’s fun to play with people that you don’t know how they play.
