Apprenticeships:

-An apprenticeship is a work-based training program where a student can "earn while they learn." 

-You are paid during training within an industry and continue to be paid while you work towards your qualifications. 

-Apprenticeships can be in many career areas including the trades and healthcare. Please see the resources below for more information.

Future Ready Iowa LAST DOLLAR SCHOLARSHIP:

Excellent opportunity for the state of Iowa to pay ALL tuition at an Iowa community college in a high need- often trade based program. Income based, to qualify- file the FAFSA. MidAmerican Energy Apprenticeships 

MidAmerican Energy offers over 25 different apprenticeship opportunities to local workers and supports their career advancement with a state-of-the-art training facility located west of the Des Moines Metro. These opportunities include several options within the electrical and welding fields as well as specialist apprenticeship programs including high-wire line (photos of the Metro training facility below) as well as Unit Operators, Lab Technicians, Instrument technician and dozens of other options. Iron Workers:

DMACC Environmental Technology

Interested in the Environment? DMACC has a program that has an apprenticeship component with coursework. The Water Environmental Technology program through DMACC is a great option to consider. You work in the industry after a short series of classes and then complete your education while working! It is also a LAST DOLLAR SCHOLARSHIP program so the tuition could be FREE! University of Iowa: Pre-apprenticeship Program

Excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience while preparing for a skilled trades apprenticeship.  This is a 5 week FREE program to all Iowa residents which helps to prepare and expose interested candidates to 16 different skilled trades.
