The Alliance Theater has provided several professional learning experiences for all staff members in arts integration. Additionally, all third through fifth grade classes have engaged in residency programs with the Alliance Theater where a teaching artist collaborates with teachers and provides 10 teaching sessions where the resident artist and teacher co-teach.
The High Museum and WJES have partnered to provide students and teachers with integrated learning experiences. Teachers have attended hands-on professional learning at the High Museum. The High Museum has also provided virtual planning collaboration, highlighting resources. Several grade levels have visited the High Museum, where teachers and students learn together.
The UGA Museum of Art is hosting every grade level in a STEAM aligned field trip, as well as partnering to provide professional learning in arts integration.
UGA's College of Education and College of Engineering have partnered with our teachers to support the integration of robotics into our instructional practice as a way to improve student engagement in core content areas. Project CALC (Collective Argumentation Learning and Coding), has led to increased collaboration and problem-solving among those participating.
We are always excited to represent WJES at the Georgia STEM/STEAM Forum every year! We are able to join similar schools and organizations who believe that STEM and STEAM are about more than just an acronym. STEM and STEAM bring out the best in education: community partnerships, hands-on learning, and real-world experiences that are designed to help students master standards and prepare for our evolving workforce.
