Zearn math is a two-part curriculum consisting of a small group lesson led by you and an independent digital lesson that students experience on the computer. Watch the overview video to learn more.
Log-in to www.zearn.org (You'll need to get your account from Sheryl McKay to ensure you are using the paid features for our school)
Click on Roster
Create your class - you only need ONE class even if you teach many grade levels. (Helpful hint: you can share your roster with any other teacher who needs to see your student(s). Here's how.)
Add your students 1 of 2 ways
If your students remember their username and passwords from the past, they can enter those into the zearn.org website and then enter your new class code. If your students used Zearn in the past but don't remember their username, please email Sheryl and ask her to locate the username for you. There is also no harm if you need to start over and add them as if they were a new student. :-)
You can add any new student to your roster by pressing the "+ add student" button.
After you add your student(s), you'll need to confirm their starting lesson in the "Assignments" section on Zearn. This is a one-time thing! After you set it, your students will be able to continue through the curriculum without further assignments from you.
Families will need to understand the 3 components of Zearn - Daily Word Problems, Zearn Digital Lesson + Problem Sets. For grades 1-5, these three components should be happening 4 days/week. (Kindergarten has daily word problems, problem sets, and homework instead of digital lessons).
Ensure your families have all of the Zearn supplies!

Math should take about 45 minutes/day. Encourage your families to go slowly at the beginning of the year to establish good math routines, positive mindsets around math, and success. There are some resources below for your families to view and consider implementing if desired.
All digital lessons have 4 components: 1) Number Gym, 2) Sprint, 3) Learning Lab/Math Chat/Zearn Squad 4) Tower of Power. This anchor chart may be helpful to show what needs to be completed for every digital lesson.
These tags can be printed by clicking on the link above and used in a variety of creative ways to encourage student engagement.
Encourage your student to hit their 4 lesson/week target by using one of these student trackers. Get creative and make it engaging for your students!
To complete Zearn in one school year, students need to complete about 4 lessons/week. Explore the ideas below for options for the 5th day:
Catch up on the 4 required Zearn lessons for the week
Complete a review of a challenging concept for the week
Complete a critical thinking task that allows students to explore deeper mathematical ideas (related or unrelated to what is currently being taught in the mission). Consider a 3-act task
Get creative! Bake something, make a symmetrical art project, find shapes in your home, etc.
Zearn Math has one assessment at the end of each mission. These assessments can be used to gauge your student's knowledge and mastery of the mission's content. If your student is not showing mastery of these concepts, please consider reviewing and reteaching before moving on. If your parent would like additional support for intervention using Zearn, please explore this document.
