Students using 6-8 Zearn should complete 3 main components of the lesson every day:
Watch an instructional video from Canvas (see note on Canvas at the bottom of this page)
Complete the Zearn Digital Lesson
Complete a Practice Page
Zearn Student Notes Volume 1
Zearn Student Notes Volume 2
Parent Curriculum Guide
Zearn Digital Account
Canvas Course
These are the PDFs of all of the printed resources that parents need for Zearn. They are included in the student book and provided here as well.
Log-in to www.zearn.org (You'll need to get your account from Sheryl McKay to ensure you are using the paid features for our school)
Click on Roster
Create your class - you only need ONE class even if you teach many grade levels. (Helpful hint: you can share your roster with any other teacher who needs to see your student(s). Here's how.)
Add your students 1 of 2 ways
If your students remember their username and passwords from the past, they can enter those into the zearn.org website and then enter your new class code. If your students used Zearn in the past but don't remember their username, please email Sheryl and ask her to locate the username for you. There is also no harm if you need to start over and add them as if they were a new student. :-)
You can add any new student to your roster by pressing the "+ add student" button.
After you add your student(s), you'll need to confirm their starting lesson in the "Assignments" section on Zearn. This is a one-time thing! After you set it, your students will be able to continue through the curriculum without further assignments from you.
You can enroll your student in the corresponding Canvas course through School Pathways or you can manually enroll them by creating a new course on Canvas and adding the Zearn course from Commons. (Search "Lindsay Baker" in Commons to find the course).
While technically optional, it is highly recommended that all 6th-8th grade students using Zearn be enrolled in the Canvas course as well. This course provides the daily structure and checklist that students need to complete when using Zearn. It also provides additional outside resources from Khan Academy and IXL for optional practice.
