The NWEA Map testing is the universal screener used by JCS-Inc. schools to monitor student growth throughout their time at JCS. On this page, you'll find a variety of resources and how-to videos to guide you through the MAP process.
Students will take one of the following tests depending on their grade level:
2nd - 5th grade students
2-5 Growth Math Test
2-5 Growth Reading Test
2-5 Growth Language Test (Optional)
6th - 12th grade students:
Growth Math 6+
Growth Reading 6+
Growth Language 6+ (Optional)
An important note for second grade students: Second grade students who are not fluent in reading should take the K-2 Growth Math and K-2 Growth Reading tests instead of the 2-5 tests.
The tests are about 40-50 questions each and should take approximately 45-75 minutes to complete. Students who finish in less than 20 minutes will most likely not have an accurate representation of their knowledge.
Students with existing IEPs and 504s should be given the same accommodations as listed in their plan for any testing situation. To do this, you'll need to create a test session, add the student to your test session, assign the desired test to the student, and then click assign accommodations. You will NOT be able to assign accommodations if a test is not assigned to the student first. Here is a detailed document or you can also watch the video at the top of this page.
Log your student's scores and percentile rankings on your Data Tracker. Your data tracker will automatically change colors based on your student's performance on MAP. (Note: you must enter the percentile ranking for the color-changing to work).
Any student who performs below the 40th percentile (as well as any other students you are concerned about) should begin the Georgia Numeracy Project. In the past, we have seen tremendous growth with 15 minutes of GNP 3 times a week.

While MAP Tests do not have a threshold point value for each grade level, they do provide normative data for you to use to see how your student compares to other students nationally. For example, if your 5th grade student gets a 184 at the beginning of the year, you can use the chart to say "This student is performing similarly to second grade students in the middle of the year". Note: this data below is valid for the years 2020-2025. New norms will be released in 2025-2026.
