For more than twenty-five years, Philip Barnes has devised and led student-trips to Italy. In its first iteration, he alone led an intrepid band of five students. Since then, the trip has become increasingly sophisticated and popular. We do NOT use the services of any tour-company; this trip is completely "home made," which means that we dictate where we go, where we stay, what we eat, and how often we have gelato (as frequently as possible). Faculty accompany the students not merely as chaperones, but as instructors; members of the department typically come along, and frequently we have invited colleagues from English, Fine Arts, or Science to share their expertise. We must cap the number of students participating at thirty; to meet demand, we typically offer it every two out of three years, during the spring break (mid-March). This trip is open to students in grades 10-12 who are currently enrolled in Latin I-V, Greek I, or Greek II.
