Cellphone Policy:
We expect all students in middle school to keep their phones in their locker and not use them during the school day. This includes between classes. As you know the school will be moving toward a more restrictive policy during the first few weeks of school with high school and we feel it is important for us to get started with middle school students as soon as possible.
Middle school students should keep cell phones in lockers during the school day and not access them during school hours. Students should put them in their lockers when they arrive in the morning. A recommendation would be for the students to keep them in their school bags so they aren't tempted by them on the shelf.
As we get started with this, middle school core teachers will provide a reminder at the start of 2nd hour for students to put their phones in their lockers. Ideally they would put them in their lockers upon arrival before 1st hour, but this is something the middle school teachers agreed we would do as a reminder for students the first week or two of school.
If a student is in violation of the policy and has their phone or is using it without permission the steps below will be taken.
1st offense
The device will be taken to the office by a staff member. The student can pick it up at the end of the day. A parent contact either via email or phone will be made by the teacher or administrator who has taken the phone.
2nd offense
The phone will be taken to the office by a staff member and will need to be picked up by a parent or guardian. Administration will make the contact.
3rd offense
The phone will be taken to the office by a staff member, administration will contact parents to pick up the phone and a detention will be issued.
4th offense
Further violation of this policy is punishable by additional detention time, suspension or ineligibility to participate in school activities and celebrations in or outside of the school day.
Earbuds/Headphone and Smartwatches Policies:
Students should not have earbuds in or headphones on during the school day, unless listening to music or an audiobook has been approved by the classroom teacher.
If we see earbuds in or headphones on, we will take them until the end of the school day.
Students should not be using their smartwatch during class.
If we see smartwatch usage, we will take it until the end of the school day.
