Shoes, Hair & Makeup

Costumes

All costumes have been pre-fit in class by our front desk staff and/or instructors to ensure correct sizing. You will receive your costume in a zippered garment bag during costume week, May 4-9th. All accessories and tights will be in the back pocket of the garment bag (black) or in the bottom of the garment bag (gray). Once costumes are sent home, you are responsible for the loss of any accessories, tights or the costume itself. Replacement costs will apply. Please keep it in a safe spot and do not wear it for dress-up or other purposes until after all performances are complete!

Caring for your Costumes

Please ensure your child does not wear their costume other than for recital-related events.  (After recital please feel free to strut around town in it!) If you must wash your costumes, please follow the garment label and otherwise ensure they are hand-washed in cold water. Costumes should never be tumble-dried, and take care not to over-expose them to direct sunlight.   Dry Cleaning is NOT recommended.  When it doubt, please contact us for further instructions.

Shoes & Tights

Tights were ordered based on costumes sizes for each dancer. Any costume requiring tights will have them included in the garment bags. Tights can not be returned once opened.

All required shoes can be purchased from the studios online store here or at a local dance shop. Any shoes ordered through our online store will ship directly to you, please allow for shipping time when purchasing.

As listed in our dress code, please make sure your dancer is outfitted with the following:

Discover Dance (all age)  students will require either pink ballet shoes or black tap shoes.  Please see the Class pages for exact details.

Tap/Jazz Combo students will need both tan jazz shoes, and black Mary Jane style tap shoes (tie tap shoes for boys).

Underwear is typically not worn under dance costumes, as tights fulfill both hygienic and modesty purposes.  In the case that your dancer feels most comfortable, underwear must be skin-colored and must not be visible beneath your child’s costume.   Undergarments/modesty liners can also be purchased here.

Please have your child wear recital undergarments to picture day so we can ensure it is appropriate for performance.

Additional costume information:  Any jewelry or accessories not included with the costume shall not be worn to performance.  No socks, corsages, jewelry etc.  These items will be removed by our backstage staff and returned at the end of the show.

Hair

Hair should be in a low bun, with a center part for all dancers. Cheerleaders should have hair in a high pony.

All hairstyles should include gel and/or hairspray- no flyaway bits please!

Makeup

Students are not required to wear makeup on stage but it is STRONGLY ENCOURAGED. The stage lights wash their faces out and make for low facial visibility; especially in photos and on video.

Some examples of makeup to use:

Applying makeup a bit more heavily than you normally would works well with the bright stage lights.
