Check out this page for short descriptions and links to videos about each course offered in the Biology program.
This general education course is geared to students majoring in non-science areas and covers a bit of everything in biology, from molecules and cells to ecology! More information on this course can be found here: https://youtu.be/s-qshAis3yE
In this course, students learn the fundamentals of the biology of cells, from the basic cell structures to the molecular, metabolic, and genetic processes within the cell. More information on this course can be found here: https://youtu.be/PEf-HLXytWo
In this course, students learn the basics of plants, animals and fungi, as well as animal behavior and ecology. Students also get to complete a small independent research project! More information about this course can be found here: https://youtu.be/RjpiaA3Lts0
In this course geared towards healthcare (nursing and allied health) students, you will learn about and work with microbes, including bacteria and viruses, and you will study various infectious diseases and understand how microbes affect human health and society. More information on this course can be found here: https://youtu.be/FIaZc-1g6EU
This course provides an in-depth focus of nucleic acid and protein structure and function, including their physical and chemical properties and their roles in cellular metabolism. The course includes an in-depth look at the synthesis of these molecules through the processes of DNA replication, transcription, and translation. As part of this course, students write and present on a literature review of a current topic related to molecular biology. [A video description of this course will hopefully be forthcoming.]
This course provides an in-depth overview of genetics – the science of biological information. Topics covered include inheritance, chromosomes and cell division, nucleic acid structure and function, DNA replication and repair, mutations, gene expression and regulation, the genetic basis of disease, and much more! Additional information about this course can be found here: https://youtu.be/bxawoW6Eaxo
In this course, which serves as the "Capstone" for the Associate of Science in Biology degree, students design and implement their own research project. More info on the course can be found here: https://youtu.be/I6k2d1nUzD4
