Reminders:
BIOL 221: Molecular Biology is only offered in the fall
BIOL 222: Genetics is only offered in the spring
BIOL 279: Introduction to Scientific Research is typically offered in both fall and spring. This is the Capstone course for the A.S. Biology degree and requires you to complete and present on a research project
New for 2025: Starting in the Fall 2025 Catalog Year, MATH138: Precalculus (5 credits) can count as your prerequisite for PHYS101: Physics I and MATH211: Calculus, in place of MATH136: College Algebra (3 credits) and MATH137: Trigonometry with Analytic Geometry (3 credits). In other words you have a choice to take either two courses, MATH136 and MATH137 (6 credits combined), or one course (MATH138, 5 credits) to be ready to take PHYS101 and MATH211. All three courses (MATH 136, 137, and 138) have the same prerequisite of MATH043: Intermediate Algebra or equivalent competency.
The Bloomington campus will being offering MATH138 starting this upcoming fall!

Here are some suggestions for finding funding to pay for college.
Fill out your FAFSA - you may be eligible for federal grants, which do not have to be paid back after you graduate, as well as federal loans, which do have to be paid back.
Apply for scholarships through our Ivy Tech Foundation: Our Foundation has scholarship money that has been donated by local individuals and groups. We even have a scholarship specific to Biology students only! To apply, visit myivy.ivytech.edu, click on billing and financial aid under student, then click apply for scholarship on the right. Filling out one application makes you eligible for all scholarships that match your situation in the Foundation system. Be sure to write your essay to maximize the scholarships you are eligible for!
This website, https://www.mccsc.edu/Page/2423, from Bloomington High School South, has an excellent listing of scholarships and links to other scholarship services. A little work on your part may yield some extra cash for tuition and fees.
