Important Updates

Ivy Tech Community College Bloomington Regional Science Olympiad

This page will list any announcements or details about any events. Remember, we will only be posting updates specific to our region. For updates that will be applied to all regions and/ or the state and national competitions, please visit the state and national pages.

Scoring: The Ivy Tech Bloomington Regional will follow the scoring guidelines used by the national competition, wherein the number of teams registered in a division is N, teams that honestly try at an event but cannot be scored (device failures, etc) will be scored N, teams that do not show up to compete for an event are scored N+1, and teams disqualified for inappropriate behavior will be scored N+2. N will remain consistent for all events for within a division regardless of how many teams actually compete in an individual event.

Awards: Event Awards: If schools bring multiple teams, each team will be treated individually, so a school with multiple teams will place multiple times within each event. For example, the same school could take the first and fifth place for an event. The competitors from the top three teams for each individual event will receive medals. Team Awards: Each school is only allowed to advance one team to the state competition. Overall team awards, therefore, with be ranked by school, not individual team. If your school has multiple teams, your rank will be determined by the highest placing team from your school. If your school will advance to state, we invite all your participants (from both teams) to join us on the stage to receive your school trophy.
