Physical Education, also known as PE, is an essential part of the Lavender school curriculum that focuses on developing physical fitness and promoting healthy habits. The PE curriculum typically includes a variety of activities such as field, net, invasion games, dance and gymnastics. Students will have the opportunity to learn about the importance of staying active, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and improving their physical skills as well as embracing the Big Ideas within our PE lessons - acquiring and developing skills, selecting and applying skills, tactics and compositional ideas, knowledge and understanding of fitness and health, evaluating and improving performance.
At Lavender, we follow the Enfield PE team’s scheme of work where throughout the PE curriculum, students will be introduced to a wide range of sports and activities that cater to different abilities and interests with clear steps of progression throughout the year groups. They will learn about the rules and strategies of various sports, as well as the benefits of regular physical activity. In addition to promoting physical fitness, PE lessons aim to enhance students' social skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship. By participating in PE, students can develop important life skills that will benefit them both in and out of school.
PE plays a vital role in the overall development of students in schools. It not only promotes physical fitness but also helps in improving mental well-being, social skills, and overall academic performance. By incorporating two hours of PE into the school curriculum each week, along with the daily mile, students are encouraged to lead a healthy and active lifestyle from a young age.
Reducing stress and anxiety, improving concentration and focus, and boosting self-esteem are all results of taking part in high quality PE lessons. By participating in PE lessons, students can develop a positive attitude towards physical activity and overall health.
