This is a UC Approved Fine Arts Course and meets Visual and Performing Arts graduation requirement. The curriculum is aligned to the CA CTE Model Curriculum Standards and Career Ready Standards for the Arts, Media and Entertainment Industry Sector – Digital Visual Media or Production Management and Design, Visual, Media Arts career pathway.
This course covers the fundamentals of the video production process and the use of the computer to create finished videos. It is a project based class, focused on creating, understanding, and contextualizing video. We will cover the foundations of art, design and video, basic composition and video skills, storytelling, creativity, video trends and techniques, personal voice, and working in teams. Projects may include Cinema Techniques, Practical Editing, Sound Design, Teaser Trailers, PSA’s, Music Videos, Short Subjects, Spot Features, Voice Over Storytelling, and Basic Special Effects.
Objectives
Students will:
Learn/practice jobs within the three stages of the video production process, pre-production, production, and post-production
Learn production roles including, shot-listing, storyboarding, camera operation, lighting techniques, directing, producing, and editing
Develop competency in managing time and people
Explore and refine their conceptual and aesthetic styles, as well as practical and technical skills
Be able to use digital editing and multiple video elements together (images, sound, interviews, music, footage) to convey a message, tell a story, and achieve communication goals

This class focuses on the art of making films. Students will have the opportunity to explore production techniques for personal creative expression of their ideas. This is both a presentation and project-based course. This course is open to all students who have taken one semester of video production and the course is designed to be repeated for those that want to continue in the area of filmmaking.
Objectives
Students will:
Practice jobs within the three stages of the video production process, pre-production, production, and post-production
Discover their particular interests and abilities within the film industry
Learn additional production roles including storytelling, scriptwriting, cinematography, sound mixing and sound designing, and directing and producing larger projects including spot features and short films.
Analyze the cinematic elements within a film
Evaluate visual storytelling
Appraise how story is told through cinematic structure
Appraise contributions and attitudes of a films various arts and elements
Identify and explore visual design, cinematography and various forms of editing
Recognize, explore, and analyze music in film and functions of the score

Recommended Placement: Completion of Video Production and one semester of Art of Film, OR teacher recommendation. An application must be submitted and students are required to attend the FilmEd summer workshop.

This course is designed to prepare students for the film industry. This yearlong course includes: creating bi-monthly broadcasts, filming/mixing live events including all pep rallies, participation in film festivals such as the Orange County Film Festival, participation in video contests, creating the yearbook DVD, creating independent projects, and much more!
