The delegate application form opens at noon on Monday, November 17, and closes promptly at noon on Friday, November 28.
Important: There is ONE application process for both the Yale Model African Union (March 13–15, Accra, Ghana) and the West African Hub Convening (March 25–27, Lome, Togo). Apply ONCE to be considered for one event.
To be eligible to apply for the Yale Model African Union delegation, applicants must meet the following requirements:
Be a registered full-time IUGB student taking a minimum of 15 credits during the semester in which the event is held
Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher
Have no active disciplinary sanctions
Be in good financial standing with the University, with no outstanding tuition or fees
Preferably demonstrate active involvement in leadership roles, student clubs, or relevant academic fields
Possess strong communication and public speaking skills
Freshmen and UPP applicants must submit a minimum of three recommendations from current faculty members in place of an official GPA
Before you apply, make sure to prepare the following materials:
A motivation letter explaining why you want to participate (700 words)
A 30-second “elevator pitch” video
For Freshmen and UPP applicants: THREE (3) recommendation letters from current professors in place of GPA
A diverse committee will review all applications to ensure a fair and thorough selection of final delegates for upcoming trips. The Selection Committee includes:
The SGA Advisor
One SGA Executive member
One Senator from the Academic Affairs Department of the SGA
One Senator from the External Affairs Department of the SGA
A representative from Student Affairs
A relevant faculty member (when applicable)
This committee aims to reach decisions by consensus. If consensus cannot be reached, a majority vote will determine the outcome. The total number of delegates selected will depend on the event requirements and available budget.
Key dates for the selection process are as follows:
November 28: Application deadline
December 1: Committee reviews all applications and narrows the pool to 20 finalists
December 3–4: Committee finalizes the list of delegates
December 5: Announcement of the final delegates for both trips
December 12: Finalists make their first down payment for participation
