BODIES IN/THROUGH SPACE

3.00 pm | April 13, 2024

A performative action organized by Università Iuav di Venezia in the industrial venue of Magazzini Ligabue.
Unique installations ranging from mirrored panels and white fabric screens to elastic filaments set the stage for a vertical dance performance by the company “Il Posto”, and use the body as a tool for the exploration of the built environment, through the grammar of movement.

The event is free, but we have limited spots.

Bodies in/through space is a selected satellite event of the New European Bauhaus Festival 2024, taking place in Brussels and across Europe.

Empty

Alessandro Caricato, Davide Bartolomeo Carlino, Letizia Martino

"Empty" embodies the concept of emptiness creating a parallelepiped frame.

It captures the equilibrium between verticality and horizontality within the Venetian landscape, brought to life through diverse configurations spawned by movements.

Scolta | The sound identity of Magazzini Ligabue

Ginevra Crana, Sofia Modenese, Ilaria Peroglio Carus, Cecilia Tosi

“Scolta” amplifies the sounds of the place using four instruments obtained from building pipes. In this way the sounds of Venetian stone, plaster, bricks and concrete come to life, while a scenographic element vehicles the lagoon background.

Full and empty

Sara Cistellini, Camilla Elisa Grande, Martina Procopio, Beatrice Rossetti

For our project, we focused on interpreting movement in space, analyzing its impacts on perception.

Using a 42-meter-long fabric, we sculpted the surrounding space, creating fullness and emptiness to add depth. Each movement aims to make individuals perceive a new dimension of space.

Change me!

Marco Baraziol, Matteo Campagna, Antonio Derobertis, Anna Manfrinati

A changing surface that modifies the absorption of sound and subverts the existing rules of the surrounding space, creating a multidimensional experience between visual and auditory aesthetics, with spatial and absorptive properties.

The turned theatre

Gloria D'Intino, Alessandra Neri, Federica Olivotto, Marco Salviati

The Magazzini space is transformed into a theater. The configuration of it changes over the course of the performance, through modular frames that come to symbolize curtain, wings and backdrop.

As vertical dance overturns the performance space, similarly we overturn the theatrical space.

The exhibition of contrast

Giulia Coschina, Salvatore Iuliano, Giorgia Mancari, Alessia Rolfi

The space surrounding us changes with the stage backdrop. The volumes of our instrument and the dancers' bodies interact with the natural light, resulIng in a contrast phenomenon. Thus, the focus is on enhancing and emphasizing the dancers' movement in the created space.

(S)legarsi

Giordana Lella, Matilde Provera, Elisa Zappia

The project redefines spaces through an interactive structure that transforms the human body into a medium for exploring and reshaping the surrounding environment.

This approach combines the art of physical interaction with space, creating a sensorial and creative experience that opens new perspectives.

Intra-sound

Rebecca Barbiani, Alessandra Canova, Davide Rizzo, Raffaele Scafati

Ephemeral geometries of panels, arranged in different layouts, will perform a shielding and a directing of sound, as if it possessed a material corporeity, in order to create and develop new, unseen spaces, inside the existing one between warehouses 6 and 7.

Lightflow

Laura Baracchini, Giulia Coppari, Margherita Gagliardi, Alessia Ludovisi

Analyzing the city of Venice, we put our attention on Light as a material that can be molded and directed.

Our aim is to direct Light as if it were a Material; after an imaginary "Closure", the Light releases its Energy and is directed inward. Thus, the Space takes on vitality and dynamism.

Light as Matter

Rossella Abbattista, Giorgia Maria Laura Iurilli, Sabrina Pia Mercaldi, Federica Spadavecchia

Our lighting design project, is named "Light as Matter", because it exploits physical phenomena such as diffraction, scatering, convoy and circular scatering, in order to shape light, altering the perception of space.

Legàmi

Francesco Briscese, Luca Paolantonio, Laura Silvestri

The key word of our project is Decomposition. Through the reflective material applied to the frames we create a link between the natural and architectural context of the site.

Our aim is to ensure a dynamic image of the space involved by capturing a multitude of decomposed fragments.

Estasi visiva

Gioele Cornaglia, Elisa Lagna, Eleonora Mottola, Giulia Mutinelli

"Estasi visiva" project talks about the relationship between fullness and emptiness in the representation of reflected space, dialoguing with real space and the dynamic presences that animate it.

First with void suspension, then the space fragmentation and finally its fracture. A game of roles and sensations.

Body & Space | To appear and disappear

Francesca Allevi, Vittoria Brugali, Chiara Malerba, Marco Taietta

The project aims to design a semi-transparent optical filter measuring 12.5 by 4 meters in motion within the architecture.

This element is intended to both conceal and reveal moving bodies, interacting with the surrounding light. The supporting structure is inspired by the nautical world.
