On Thursday, April 28, 2022, the Seneca Highlands Career and Technical School in Port Allegany, Pennsylvania had an Installation Ceremony for National Technical Honor Society at 1:00. The Guest Speaker was Mr. Andrew Johnson, Health and Safety Manager at the Ardagh Group. The purpose of the National Technical Honor Society is to celebrate the accomplishments of today's career and technical education students, empowering them to know the value and impact of their career paths and trades. Since 1984, NTHS has been honoring outstanding student achievement, providing scholarships and career development opportunities. Kaden is a senior at Kane High School and a third year student in the Automotive Program at the Seneca Highlands CTC.

Kaden pays attention to the little details and is always looking for a new challenge. He spends a lot of time both in and out of the classroom working on improving his abilities and it shows in the quality work that he performs.

He intends to enter the workforce after graduation and will make a fine employee for someone.

SHCTC Career Mentor; Ms. Jessica Jones participated in the Oswayo Valley MS/HS Career Fair held on Thursday, April 7th at the school.

Doug, a junior from Otto-Eldred, is a first year student in the engineering technology program of study. Besides being an excellent student in the classroom, Doug also has taken a great interest in manufacturing and machining.

His independent STEM project involved building a model steam engine with the support of his instructors Mr. Bishel and Mr. Cox. Doug accomplished this project within five months. He also built a model cannon within a week. "I enjoyed working with Mr. Cox on these projects and there was a huge amount of satisfaction and accomplishment when these projects were finished."

Doug's attendance is also excellent. His plans after graduation are to join the workforce or attend college.

Bryn is in the Early Childhood Education program at the Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center, and a Senior enrolled at Port Allegany High School. Upon graduation, Bryn would like to be an English Teacher.

Bryn is assistive with giving tours for prospective students wanting to come to the CTC. Bryn attended a Career Day in Northern Potter four years ago that Mrs. Mooney attended to introduce the program, and Bryn was hooked. Bryn does challenge her instructor and takes the opposite side of educational issues and is very perceptive and convincing when she disagrees with research. She loves to debate!

Bryn has been volunteering at the Port Allegany Elementary School this academic year. She hopes to attend Alfred and get her teaching certificate in the near future. Bryn was part of the Student Committee, Skills USA, National Technical Honor Society,and took Psychology 111 while attending the Career and Technical Center.

We wish Bryn the very best as she graduates and continues her adventures into adulthood. It was once said “Adventure in life is good. Coffee is even better” and watching a student that truly enjoys learning to work with young children is the BEST!

Maya is a junior at Port Allegany High School and attends the CTC in the Health Assistant program.

Maya just completed her clinical hours of her CNA and is awaiting state testing.

The SHCTC Networking and Security instructor, Mr. Bryant is proud to announce the Student of the Week, Kristopher Herbert.

Kris (Grade 11, PASD) has demonstrated the resiliency and persistence needed to become an outstanding future computer/network technician. He provides help to his classmates and exhibits an outstanding work ethic in shop labs and on theory assignments.

Kris is currently seeking his PC Pro and Network Pro certifications.

Bryce Gifford a junior from Smethport is the Seneca Highlands CTC's student of the week!

Bryce is a high energy student that has a strong interest in the trade. He has a good understanding of basic concepts and is willing to tackle new tasks. He has accepted new and expanded roles in the classroom and is really starting to show his true potential.

It will be fun to see how much more he'll learn in the next year and a half.

The Building Construction Occupations program at Seneca Highlands CTC, has chosen Hunter as the student of the week. Hunter is a Junior at Smethport High School and has been enrolled in the BCO program for two years. Hunter recently went to the District 10 Skills competition and was awarded first place in the Job Demonstration open competition. This Skills event draws students from all over district 10 to compete against each other. He will now go onto States in Hershey, PA for Skills and compete at that level.

Along with an outstanding attendance record, Hunter has a strong work ethic, and does his best to help his fellow students in the classroom and in the shop. He is currently working at McKean County E-Sales. He participates in football, wrestling, and trap team in Smethport.

Hunter will complete the BCO program this next year and is going into the National Guard for the Military Police.

Kyle is a junior from Northern Potter High School and a first year student in the Engineering Technology program at the Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center. He has been selected as the student of the week because of his consistent work ethic, high scores, and enthusiasm for learning the trade.

Kyle is a second generation CTC attendee, as his father participated in both the Heavy Equipment and Automotive programs when he was in high school. Kyle chose to follow in his father’s footsteps by also enrolling in the CTC. Kyle enjoys machining things with his hands and mind. He loves the thought process that goes into making the parts that contribute to making something greater. Kyle has always aspired to become a rocket scientist or aeronautical engineer.

He sets his goals high, and he reports to class everyday ready to learn, because he loves what he is able to do here in the program. Kyle has learned about physics, electrical circuits, and he loves getting his hands dirty when working on the mill and lathe. He enjoys seeing 2 dimensional blueprints come to life when machining parts into three dimensional objects.

Kyle finds purpose in knowing his path is in the engineering field.

Morgan is a senior at Otto-Eldred High. At the CTC, she is a third-year student expected to graduate with high honors this year from the Culinary Arts program, of which she has been a very active student for the past three years.

She currently works at a local restaurant in Eldred, and has for the past two years. She is on the Student Committee and Safety Committee here at SHCTC.

Seth is a junior at Port Allegany High School. At the CTC, he is a second-year culinary student and is very active in daily operation and works to the end of each day.

Seth is very eager to learn and helpful to everyone. He is dually enrolled with Pennsylvania College of Technology with two courses; Psychology and Sanitation (ServSafe course). He is also enrolled with Pitt Bradford for Civics and Economics.

Seth is scheduled to compete January 14^th, 2022 at the SkillsUSA Districts Culinary competition.

Shakira is in the Early Childhood Education program at the Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center. She is a Junior enrolled at Kane High School. Upon graduation, Shakira would like to be a preschool teacher or a game warden. In many ways they are the same.

Shakira has a great attitude and is cooperative, and follows directions and makes good choices. She stays in constant communication with her teacher and always lets her teacher know her plans ahead of time! Her teacher, Mrs. Mooney, would describe her as good natured and caring when working with early learners. She is a responsible student and volunteers at the Kids Learning Center in Kane. Shakira works hard to improve and create a quality care experience.

Brenda Baker at the Kids Learning Center stated the following about Shakira: “We all value her as she has been a hard worker, an eager learner, and a great asset to our preschool room”.

Clarissa has been recognized this week because of her excellent grades, her willingness to help other students, and her efforts to improve her own personal skills. She will be attending the Skills USA competition in Medical Assisting this year.

Clarrisa is a 3rd year in the Health Assistance program. She received her Nurse aide certificate in November, 2021. She is currently on a capstone project at the Port Pharmacy where she practices customer service skills, and uses her medical knowledge to assist patients, including assisting in the COVID vaccine clinics offered by the pharmacy.

Clarissa’s post graduation plans include attending JCC for her Nursing degree. Once she achieves her RN license, she hopes to begin a career in Maternity nursing and achieve her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.

The Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center’s Student Committee organized a center wide event in December to brighten the lives of others.

Holiday cards were made by all ten shops and will be delivered to Sena Kean Manor in Smethport and Sweden Valley Manor in Coudersport just before the holidays to bring some winter cheer.

Over three hundred cards will be presented to the residents with the hope that they uplift their spirits and brighten their day.

Wyatt is a senior from Otto Eldred High School and is enrolled in the Homeland Security program at the Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center. He is a member of the Otto Township Volunteer Fire Department.

By setting an outstanding example for his classmates, consistently achieving the highest level of academic performance, and by virtue of his commendable work ethic, Wyatt has earned the title Student of Week.

An 11th grader from Northern Potter, Ray has a high interest in the trade and has a very good working knowledge of the auto repair industry. He is willing to accept any automotive challenge that comes his way.

Ray is in his second year in the program but you can already see that the sky's the limit for this young man.

Kaleb is a Port Allegany Senior enrolled in the Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technology program.

He continually distinguishes himself from his classmates with his excellent work ethic, his high concern for accuracy and attention-to detail and his performance in leadership roles.

His future plans are to attend post-secondary school at Penn College to further his training as an Equipment Operator/ Diesel Technician.

My name is Ashton Oakes, I am a senior this year at Kane Area High School. I play for the varsity soccer team at my school, and I enjoy using my hands to create things.

I plan to take my next step towards a bright future through attending Penn College in Williamsport to major in Graphic Design.

It is with great pleasure that we name Kaden Silvis (Grade 12, Otto-Eldred SD) as the Networking and Security Student of the Week.

Kaden has shown diligence and quiet leadership throughout his time at the CTC. His academic and lab performance is an example for others.

Kaden earned his PC Pro certification last Spring and is currently seeking his Network Pro certification.

She is in the Early Childhood Education program at the Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center. McKenzie is a Junior enrolled at Coudersport Jr./ Sr. High School. Upon graduation, McKenzie would like to be a preschool teacher or a classroom aide.

McKenzie has been diligent about her assignments and has stayed focused on her studies as they pertain to the physical, intellectual, emotional and social development of a child. She describes herself as “ joyful, creative, and a good listener.” Her teacher, Mrs. Mooney, would describe her as trustworthy, open minded, and a natural at working with early learners. McKenzie is a responsible student and took on the added responsibility of taking a college course, Psychology 111, for three credits this year. She assists the teacher in the classroom and shows maturity in the classroom by taking on a leadership role with fellow students.

McKenzie has gained some experiences working with children by babysitting and she currently works and volunteers at Kites kids in Coudersport.

“MacKenzie Hurd has been working at Kites Kids for a couple of months now. She is amazing with the children. She takes care of others before herself, she is willing to work with all the age groups, and she is very proficient with every group. Kenzie is one of the sweetest girls and is always open to new ideas and suggestions to work with the kids. The preschoolers respond very well to her and are always happy to see her.”

Camerynn is a second year Health Assistant student and Port Allegany junior whose future plans include attending an RN program and eventually becoming a Nurse Midwife. She is a member of the Student Committee as well as the Safety Committee. She will be completing the nurse aide training course this year.

She excels in her academic endeavors by participating in classroom discussions, timely submission of all assignments, and excellent test scores. She is a leader in the classroom through assistance in lab skills, classroom, and community activities. She also enjoys assisting and encouraging others to perfect their skills.

Outside of school, Camerynnn enjoys the outdoors such as four wheeling, sports, and spending time with family and friends.

Mikya is a second year student in the Homeland Security program at the CTC. Mikya sets a terrific example for her peers in and out of the classroom.

In her first year at the CTC, Mikya earned 11 certificates for successfully completing Pennsylvania State Fire Academy courses. As a volunteer at the Port Allegany Fire Department, Mikya shows great interest in pursuing public safety as a career. Mikya is also currently studying to become an EMT.

As the school year comes to an end, multiple students in Mr. Bryant's Networking and Security shop at the Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center have earned industry certifications.

Alexander Evans (Grade 12, PASD), Garrett Johnson (Grade 11, PASD) Kaden Silvis (Grade 11, OESD) and Darci Meacham (Grade 12, CASD) each earned their PC Pro Certification.

Anthony Herring (Grade 10, NPSD) and Trenton Smith (Grade 11, KASD) earned their Network Pro Certification. These students are also certified in PC Pro.

Hunter Beck (Grade 12, GASD) and Chase Trask (Grade 12, SASD) earned their Security Pro certifications. Hunter and Chase were previously Network Pro certified.

Since adopting the TestOut training platform in 2017-2018, students in the Networking and Security shop have earned over 60 certifications.

In 2020-21 Networking and Security students earned a total of 27 college credits as members of Mr. Bryant's Penn College Now classes in Introduction to Gaming & Simulation and American Government.

A HUGE shout-out and Thank you goes out to the above mentioned community members for taking time out of their day to complete mock interviews with the seniors here at SHCTC.

This was a great opportunity for our students to interact with community members and get an idea of what may be asked of them upon entering the workforce.

Students were to be prepared with their digital portfolios, appropriate dress, and be ready for interview questions related to their employability.

The interviewees were then given feedback on how their interview went and provided with suggestions for strengths and improvements.

Lunch was prepared and served by the students in the Culinary Arts Program.

Second year students from Mrs. Barth's Health Assistant Program, along with Ms. Jones, SHCTC Career Mentor, toured the JCC Cattaraugus Campus on Thursday, May 6th.

They sat through a presentation given by the JCC Nursing Program Instructors. The group was able to see the hi- tech state of the art labs where Nursing students complete simulations while practicing their skills.

The students and instructors at SHCTC thank JCC Cattaraugus for the opportunity to explore the Nursing program at your campus!

On Wednesday May, 12, SHCTC students from Mr. Bryant’s Networking and Security shop participated in a private tour of the I-Hack facility in the Knight Tower on the campus of Gannon University. During this tour students learned about the infrastructure of the building, the composition of the attack lab, defense lab, and classrooms, as well as the construction of the third-floor corporate incubator. Following the tour the group received a presentation on cutting-edge cybersecurity research from Dr. Matovu. The students also enjoyed a private tour of the Gannon campus and a take-away catered lunch.

Gannon University is actively recruiting for its cybersecurity programs (contact Mara at ditullio003@gannon.edu) and has partnered with the Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center by funding registration and equipment for the CTC’s CyberPatriot Team this academic year.

The Building Construction Occupations program at Seneca Highlands CTC nominates, Isaiah DeBockler as the student of the week . Currently he is a Junior at Port Allegany High School and has been enrolled in the BCO program for two years.

Isaiah continues to do his very best both at home school and here at the CTC. This work ethic has awarded him with a nomination and induction into the National Technical Honor Society.

Along with an outstanding attendance record, Isaiah also has a strong work ethic, is always prepared, and does his best to help his fellow students in the classroom and in the shop. He is well liked by his peers and staff here at the CTC.

Isaiah will complete the BCO program next year and join the military in pursuit of an electrical engineering career.

Sam is a third year student in the Culinary Art's program at the CTC, she has just finished and passed her NOCTI exam.

Faith Miller is student of the week at the Seneca Highlands Career and Tech Center . A sophomore from Smethport, she competes in cross country and track, and is also a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.

This year, Faith has earned her CPR , Stop the Bleed, Fire Extinguisher and OSHA 10 certificates.

Her future plans are to become a Registered Nurse. Faith is also a member of the National Honor Society . She is involved in community service projects through the honor society and through her church at Hilltop Baptist Church.

Ethan Sprankle is the Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center Student of the Week! A senior from Port Allegany, Ethan is a third year student enrolled in the Homeland Security course at the CTC.

Ethan has earned Student of the Week honors by virtue of his nearly perfect attendance, hard work, and by exhibiting tremendous leadership in and out of the classroom. These attributes make Ethan an outstanding roll model for fellow students.

In addition, Ethan is a member of the Nation Technical Honor Society, a Skills USA competitor, and a member of the CTC Student Committee.

Ethan is a Junior Firefighter with the Roulette Volunteer Fire Department and after graduation, his plans include seeking employment as a career firefighter and attending a career fire academy.

Ethan should further be recognized for now being selected three times as Student of the Week!

First year Early Childhood Education students at the Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center taught virtually to students in Olean, New York, at Southern Tier Catholic School on February 23, 2021.

Lesson plans were designed by the CTC pupils around the theme of Black History Month. Activities were challenging to teach online according to many of the students, but it was rewarding to work with the STCS pupils and teachers to gain experience and evidence for our portfolios.

February is Career and Technical Education month and one particular honor that extends from this would be the Presidential Scholars Program. This program began in 1964, by executive order of the President, to provide recognition and honor to some of the nation’s most distinguished high school seniors. In 1979, it extended to add in visual, performing, and creative arts. Then, in 2015, this program opened the doors for recognition for those students in career and technical education that demonstrate ability and accomplishment. The Presidential Scholars Award is recognition of students who excel overall in academic, technical, and personal skills areas. To apply for the award, a rigorous nomination process was completed by her health assistant teacher using evidence gleaned from Jordan’s Career Portfolio. After she was selected as a nominee by a state committee, she was able to present her reasons for choosing Career and Technical Education as her pathway to her selected career.

Mrs. Lana Barth chose to nominate Jordan based on her hard work and her determination to take advantage of the many opportunities provided to her at the CTC. She has shown admirable academic achievement through enrollment in the National Honor Society at her homeschool and in the National Technical Honor Society at the CTC. She has also taken advantage of 6 dual enrollment credits offered at the CTC and also several college credits in her homeschool. Jordan participated in the District 10 SkillsUSA competition last year, winning a bronze medal for her career portfolio development. Jordan shows teamwork and support of fellow classmates through her involvement in Safety Committee, CTC Student Committee, and her diligence in creation of games and study activities that benefited all students in morning and afternoon sessions of the health assistance program. Jordan was one of the first CTC students to develop a complete online career portfolio. Her portfolio has been used as a teaching tool for other students and teachers in several surrounding schools. Since then, she has continued to improve her portfolio even further. She has demonstrated community awareness through joining her local ambulance association as a volunteer.

Currently, Jordan is part of the Capstone program at UPMC Cole as a Food Service Attendant. This program allows Jordan to attend school part of the day and go to work at UPMC Cole the second half when she would normally be at the CTC. She plans on attending an undecided university to achieve her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing. Jordan’s career goal is to become a Pediatrician.

Seneca Highlands CTC is proud to be represented by Jordan in such a prestigious award. This demonstrates just some of the advantages to students who are serious about their futures. This award also emphasizes that not only does Career and Technical education provide a step up for students, it also adds the element of community involvement.

Dannielle Miller from Early Childhood Education at the Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center is honored as the Student of the Week. Dannielle is a Junior at Galeton Area High School and a Second Year student in the program. Dannielle is currently volunteering to get clinical hours at Alliance Day Care and Learning Center. She is assigned to the Preschool Room with Ms. Jennifer Leete. She loves that she is helpful and mainly gets to work with children who need assistance which is very rewarding. Her plans for the future are to become a Preschool teacher. Preschool teachers in Dannielle’s words are “compassionate, organized, involved, and fair to all students and look at all sides of an argument”.

Dannielle is participating in Psychology 111 through Penn College Now for 3 credit hours. She may use this knowledge in the future and she said “ it is good to know why some people make the choices and decisions they do.” Dannielle intends to stay in the Early Childhood program and get her Child Development Associate. It will “benefit her career”. Miss Jennifer Leete from Alliance Daycare and Learning Center said, “Danielle is a phenomenal help in the classroom! She takes initiative and heads on tasks without being asked! Additionally, she is observant and has a keen eye for knowing where she is needed most honing in on the students who are struggling and need extra help! She has bonded with the kids; they adore her! I know one day she will be an exceptional teacher!" Dannielle’s instructor at The Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center praises her for her effort on assignments, budgeting her time and meeting deadlines, and her good communication. Congratulations Dannielle!

Blaine Moses, a first year student from Port Allegany. He is a model student that always has his work done on-time. He has excellent concern with his work quality and accuracy and follows directions better than his classmates. Even as a first-year student, Blaine is a reliable student when it comes to completing challenging shop projects.

Parker Howard is the Student of the Week for February 1, 2020. He is a student in the Building Construction class , and a senior of the Oswayo Valley High School. He has been enrolled in the BCO class for three years. Parker continues to want to learn more of the program and the trades that go with it. He has worked on numerous projects and always does his best at the CTC.

Along with an outstanding attendance record, Parker also has a strong work ethic and does his best to help his fellow students in the classroom and shop. He is well liked by his peers and staff here at the CTC.

He recently became an Eagle Scout for Troop 557, the local Boys Scout program in Shinglehouse. Parker works for a local contractor and plans on becoming a linesman after he graduates.

Nicholas Cummings, Benjamin Torrey and Corinna Wood, all students in Mr. Bryant’s Networking and Security shop at the Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center, earned industry-recognized certifications in February. Nicholas (11th grade, Smethport ASD) earned his IT Fundamentals Pro certification, Benjamin (11th grade, Northern Potter SD) earned his Network Pro Certificate, and Corinna (11th Grade, Smethport ASD) earned her PC Pro Certificate.

Marshall Ebert, a 10th grader from Otto-Eldred,in the Automotive class is SHCTC Student of the Week. Marshall is a first year student that shows a high interest in the trade. He is willing to accept new challenges and work outside of his comfort zone. He is a leader among his peers and is very proactive in his learning.
